Married 2 December 1764 in Hampshire County, Virginia. Moved to North Carolina, near Fort Watauga, in the 1760s with his brothers Jacob and Benjamin and their sister Catrina. The Hyders manufactured gunpowder, as did the closest neighbor, #43 Mary Patton. Their community became known as Powder Branch (now in Tennessee). Michael was a member of the Watauga Association, and a signer of the Washington Compact and the Halifax Petition. Died 25 June 1790 at Powder Branch, Carter County, Tennessee.
