Salvator Xuereb
Homepage
This page is dedicated to a talented actor, Salvator Xuereb.
He was one of the first season stars of the syndicated television show,
Pensacola: Wings of Gold (distributed by EyeMark Enterainment).
Salvator is married to actress Cristi Conaway, who is starring
in the new series Timecop. Sal was born and raised in Manhattan,
and spent some time in France, going to school there. He entered
New York University as a business major, intending to join his family's
fahshion business.
Xuereb began studying with top New York and Los Angeles acting
instructors. He had first become interested in acting after seeing
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid when he was eight years old.
"I thought it was the coolest thing on the planet," Xuereb said, ergarding
the acting profession, "and I couldn't believepeople were able to do that
for a living."
Sal's first television role was in the sereis Alien Nation,
though his "big break" came in an episode of Doogie Howser, M.D.,
where "I got to make Doogie cool." He has also appeared in episodes
of Melrose Place, China Beach, The Outsiders, and
Fugitive Among Us.
His ilm career has consisted mainly o critically-acclaimed independent
films, including Killing Zoe, The Doom Generation, Natuaral
Born Killers, Mr. Stitch, Lewis and Clark and George,
and My Brother's War. In Lewis and Clark and George,
James Brolin wrote a scene for himself in which he "played a nut, and we
hit it off right away," proclaimed Xuereb of Brolin.
Brolin credits himself with having lured Salvator to Pensacola:
Wings of Gold. PWoG is Sal's first starring role on a
television show; he plays First Lieutenant AJ Conaway. The Sea Dragons
demolitions expert is an unusual character for Xuereb. "I usually
play a bad guy, and I kind of like that. But this time I am a nice
guy. AJ joined the Marines because he probably was a pyromaniac as
a kid and channeled it into being an explosives expert. He's a lover
not a fighter. And having to kill someone is possibly the owrst thing
he'd ever have to do but, if necessary, he'll do it and do it well."
Salvator has aspirations of writing and directing, he has said,"
the best part (of directing) of the job is telling people what to do."
When he was offered the chance to give a name to his character on Pensacola,
he was thrilled. The "A" is in regards to his wife's father, "J"
for his father Jean Pierre, and Conaway, his wife's last name. "I
wanted to pay tribute to all of them."
