In the Future...

The Millenium Bug was much worse than anyone had anticipated, and we were unprepared.

"On the first part of the journey
I was lookin' at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
and the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound"

A worldwide blackout occured on January 1st, 2000. Power plants shut down. Nuclear plants had faults and exploded. Chaos ensued.

Because of all this, we didn't see the asteroids coming.

Many as big cars, they wiped out all major cities, caused massive tidal waves, and volcanic activity under the surface increased greatly.

The world left behind was nothing like it is now.

"After two days in the desert sun
my skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was lookin' at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead"

From the thick black clouds of dirt and radioactive dust, emerged millions of cockroaches, horrible freakish monstrocaties, mutated zombie humans, normal humans who had hidden in underground shelters, and the only sane ones: Highlander-Immortals.

The Highlanders, wherever they were at the time, merely sat out all the destruction and found themselves in a bleak, desolate wasteland.

"After nine days I let the horse run free
'Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The ocean is a desert with its life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
but the humans will give no love"

Now every survivor roams the earth alone, some choosing to congregate, living off the remains of the former world. They travel in motor vehichles that they find amongst the wreckage of once-great cities and towns, then supe it up with armor and weapons.

"I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to get out of the rain
In the desert, you can't remember your name
'Cause there aint no one for to give you no pain"

When two meet, rarely do they choose to befriend in order to survive-- they usually battle to the death for the other's bounty.

These are the Wasteland Wars.
