(9/17/97) AMONSON _ Susan May Amonson (nee Martin), beloved wife of David Amonson of Calgary, passed away while vacationing in British Columbia on September 15, 1997 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 52 years. Born and educated in Calgary, Susan resided here all of her life. After graduating from Mount Royal College she worked at Century Geophysical and IBM, and later taught computer courses at Mobil Oil. In 1989 she joined her husband David in his accounting firm. Susan enjoyed travelling, needle craft, and being with people; but she especially enjoyed dinners with family and friends. Besides her loving husband, Susan is survived by two daughters, Lisa and Lori; her parents, Bill and Edna Martin; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Dan Shannon; and two nephews, Greg and Chris, all of Calgary. She is also survived by Dave's family and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Beloved mother of Loraine (John) Hepburn, Peter (Gwynn) Bruner, John (Martha) Bruner, Albert (Millicent) Silliker, Alberta (Dave) Shores, Madeleine (Jim) Ingram, Evelyn (Wayne) Dancey and Franklin (Linda) Silliker. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Eileen, Sharon, Kathryn, Peter, Cindy, Slate, Jodi-Lee, Jarrett, Cheryl, David, Aubrey, Kenneth, Stephen, Carolyn, Sheila and Christopher; as well as nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bruner was predeceased by her husbands, Preston L. Bruner and Albert E. Silliker, her son Charles W. Bruner and her grandsons, Christopher and Michael. Inge was born February 19, 1917 in Oldenburg, Germany and came to Canada in 1953. She had been a resident of Calgary since then and had worked for Dominion Bridge and then Honeywell. Andy served with the Canadian Armed Forces Armoured Corps for twenty-two years. After retirement, he continued his career with the Royal Bank of Canada. (9/17/97) DUNN _ Thomas Joseph, born in Glasgow, Scotland on December 2, 1919. Thomas passed away at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on September 13, 1997 at the age of 77 years. Thomas is survived by his sisters, Rosemary (Jerry) Fleck, and Maureen (Alan) Branton, all of Sherwood Park; sisters-in-law, Janine of Edmonton, Ruth (Arnold) Milman of Calgary, and Elsie (Dave) Sullivan of Red Deer; his brother-in-law Rolf Gilberg of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and their families. He was the very dear and special friend to Mady of Calgary. Thomas will be missed by all of his neighbours and friends. Sandy is survived by his loving family, his wife Phyllis Ecclestone (Sue); daughters, Laura (Brian) Lyall of Invermere, B.C., Joanne of Calgary; and grandsons, Steven and Kevin Lyall. Bill is survived by his four sisters, six brothers and their spouses. He will also be fondly remembered by his "second son" Colin McDonald. Born November 22, 1945, Bill devoted his life to family, friends and career in his happy boisterous way. Bill attended Montana State University, Bozeman, Montana and received his degree in Civil Engineering. Thereafter he entered into an ambitious career in the oil and gas industry. (9/17/97) HOWARD _ Helen "Louise" Howard (nee Akitt), loving mother of David and Nicholas of Calgary, passed away suddenly at her residence on September 15, 1997 at the age of 49 years. Louise was born May 28, 1948 in Calgary and attended Western Canada High School. Out of high school, she worked as an Optometric Assistant with her father for eleven years. Louise always enjoyed rejuvenating the numerous old homes her family lived in here in Calgary. The most important thing in her life was raising her two sons, and she supported their activities through much volunteer work. She also supported her former husband's business activities, when she was able. Because of her love and dedication to her family she will always be remembered. Besides her two sons, Louise is also survived by her parents, Helen and Don Akitt; her twin sister Donna Snell and husband Fred and their children, Diana and Alexander. She is also survived by the father of her two sons, John Howard; nieces and nephews, Quinn and Todd Davis, and Jamie, Jeff, Debbie, Lindsay, and Lisa Howard; cousin Jim Akitt of Vancouver, B.C.; and her friend David Hildebrandt. Tom was born on May 14, 1954 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing, hunting and horseback riding. Tom was a devoted father who was actively involved with Chris' activities as a soccer coach and a cub leader. He was a small business owner who will be sadly missed. Born in Biggar, Sask., Howard resided in Regina after his marriage to Gert (Stone) in 1940, moving to Calgary in 1956 where he was well- known in the printing trade in Western Canada, retiring in 1978 to Malahat and Victoria. Les is survived by is loving wife of sixty-three years, Hilda; his three sons, David (Doreen), Geoffrey (Barbara) and Lloyd (Angie); nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and by his nephews, Ken (Jean) Pawson and John (Joyce) Pawson. Les worked for Imperial Oil for forty-two years beginning as a machinist in 1927 and ending as the Assistant Manager of the Calgary refinery. Following retirement in 1969, he accepted a series of consulting contracts across North America including sites in Wyoming and Louisiana. (9/17/97) REDICK _ Roy Dean Redick of Airdrie, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 14, 1997, at the age of 57 years. Roy's life began in the small farming community of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. He moved to Calgary as a young man and began an association with the Ford Motor Company which would last for over thirty years. During this time, Roy earned many awards for service quality and commitment to a job well done. His love of four wheel driving led him to a fond appreciation of the environment and his involvement in its conservation. Roy's children regret not knowing that their father's time was so short and that they were not able to spend more time enjoying life with him. He is survived by his mother Ella Redick of Maple Creek; his common-law wife Marg Sharlow of Airdrie; three children, Kevin, Leslie (Stacey), and Deborah, all of Calgary, and their mother Dorothy; three brothers, Lloyd (Verla) of Regina, Harve (Donna) of Maple Creek, and Glen (Mary) of Tucson, Arizona; and two young grandchildren, Rachel and Zachary Redick of Calgary. Roy was predeceased by his father Clifford Redick. (9/17/97) SMITH _ Morris Norman Smith passed away September 14, 1997 at the Rockyview General Hospital, peacefully and in dignity, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 82 years. He was predeceased by his loving wife Ann and nine brothers and sisters. Morris leaves to mourn him, two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Leonard and Hilda Smith, and Dr. Stanley and Carey Smith. He also leaves six grandchildren, David, Joel, Kevin, Penny, Tracy and Mandy; all of whom will miss him very much. Morris was raised in Calgary as part of a very large extended family, and graduated from Central High School, winning many swimming awards. Morris worked for the Curtis Publishing Company and then went into partnership with his brother Joe, in the Grand Coffee Shop. Following that, he built the Beacon Hotel and managed it for many years, after which he was involved in real estate sales for a few years. Morris was proud of his good name as a man of honour, integrity and honesty. He was an active member of the Alberta Hotel Association, North Hill Kiwanis, the Masonic Order, Beth Tzedec congregation, and B'nai Brith. He worked very hard on behalf of the I.L. Peretz school in its early years. He retired in 1972 and one year later lost his beloved wife, Ann. He was completely devoted to his loving children and grandchildren and derived great pleasure and pride from all of their accomplishments. The family gives special thanks to Mavis Van Sertima who cared for him with great devotion these past few months. He is also survived by his second wife Rita of the Cedars Villa Nursing Home. Albert will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-eight years, Frances; their daughter Catherine (Jim) Campbell. He is also survived by his son Owen. He will be remembered by his grandchildren, Jeffrey, Emily and Laura. Albert is also survived by his sister Vera Field of Brantford, Ontario and his brother Thomas Speechley of London, Ontario. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother and two sisters. Albert was employed by Texaco/Esso for many years. He was an active member of the South Calgary Y's Men's Club. Ellen was born October 1, 1905 in the Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1907. Ellen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and William Chmilar of Calgary; and her son Herbert McNeill of Thompson, Manitoba; six grandchildren, David, Shawna, Barbara, Lorraine, Beverly, Melody; and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Elsie of Edmonton; two sisters, Myrtle Wilson, and Rose Neilson; her brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Vera Pritula, all of St. Catharines, Ontario; as well as other family members. Ellen was predeceased by her first husband William McNeill, her second husband Julian Szotylo, and sons, Gordon and Ronald McNeill. Bill was predeceased by his father Daniel Turner in 1989. Bill was born and raised in Edmonton where he received his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta. Later, he received his Masters Degree from the University of Calgary. Bill worked as an engineer and a project manager over the past thirty-four years. Bill brought enthusiasm, humour and quick wit to his many and varied projects and activities. Bill cherished his family and friends and will live in our hearts forever.
