AUMONIER _ Jessie Emma (1916 - 1997) passed away peacefully at Peace Arch Extended Care on the 31st August. Jessie was born in Rosebud, Alberta. Her family moved to Calgary where she went to school, became a nurse and married Pierre. In 1968 she and Pierre retired to Sidney on Vancouver Island. Pierre passed away in 1987. In 1991 she moved to a senior citizens complex in White Rock, B.C. Jessie is survived by her sisters, Jean (Walter) of Nanton, Alberta and Frankie (Bob) of Airdrie, Alberta; daughters, Joan of Claresholm, Alberta, Annette (Gary) of Surrey, B.C.; and son Ron (Pat) of Sidney, B.C.; she also has six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews. COLE _ Raymond Franklin, of Kelowna, B.C. died August 31, 1997 after a brief illness. Ray was born at the Calgary General Hospital, June 9, 1938. He is survived by his wife Bert; his mother May Carlson (Calgary); his sister Kathleen Smith (Calgary); his father Frank Cole (Lethbridge); as well as other family and many friends. Ray grew up in Brooks, Alberta where he began his career in the oil business. Ray's business interests led him to Whitehorse, Terrace and most recently to Kelowna where he was co-owner of The Golf Centre. He was an avid trap shooter and competed at provincial and national levels. Ray was a kind and caring gentleman and will be joyously remembered by all who knew and loved him. DAVIE _ Henriette Winnifred "Rita" Davie passed away at the Foothills Hospital, on September 1, 1997 at the age of 85 years. Rita was born in Winnipeg, MB on June 15, 1912. She was predeceased by her loving husband of fifty-five years, Robert "Pinkie" Davie in 1990. Rita will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Sylvia (Ed) Loeprich, Bob (Jeannie) Davie, Winnie (Tom) Barrow, Brett (Sandra) Davie and Michelle Davie; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. DAWSON _ Mr. Richard Edward (Dick) Dawson, passed away with his loving family at his side on August 31, 1997 at the age of 73 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Anne Dawson and dear father of Kim and Michael, all of Calgary. Dick was predeceased by his parents, Eric and Ruth Dawson and by his sister Joan Davis. Dick was born in Broderick, Saskatchewan on April 23, 1924. He received his education in Provost, Alberta and then enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in March 1943 and served until October 1945. Dick was employed by several retail food chains and in 1968 joined the A.L.C.B., retiring as a manager in June 1987. Dick spent his retirement enthusiastically volunteering for many charitable organizations. FISKE _ Eleonore Tiffin Fiske (nee Riddler) of Calgary, formerly of Provost, Alberta, passed away on August 31, 1997, at the age of 93 years. IAFOLLA _ Ascanio Iafolla, beloved husband of Paolina, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on September 1, 1997, at the age of 87 years. JOHNSTON _ Mrs. Alice M. Johnston passed away peacefully on August 30, 1997 at the Sarcee Auxiliary Hospital and Nursing Home in Calgary, at the age of 89 years. Alice was born in Leadville, Colorado in 1908 and moved to Canada when she was sixteen years old. She taught school in rural Saskatchewan, where she touched so many hearts of her students until 1968 when she retired from the Broadview Public School. She continued to enjoy her life to the fullest by travelling, bowling, and taking up golf lessons which she loved so dearly. She spent her winters in Mesa, Arizona until 1991. She was also a member of the Wesley United Church, the U.C.W., the I.O.D.E. and had volunteered in their shops. Her proudest moment was in 1976 when she was the Worthy Grand Matron of the Eastern Star in Saskatchewan. Alice also took on many volunteer jobs for various non-profit organizations. She enriched the lives of so many people, who all became friends. Family and friends were close to Alice because Alice was Alice. MUKANIK _ Edward Mukanik, peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, September 1, 1997. Born in Roshtern, SK on February 7, 1932, Ed was raised on the family farm until his father's death in 1948. Moving to Saskatoon, it was there that he met his wife to be, Olga, whom he married in 1953. They farmed near Elston, SK for many years, raising their family until Ed became a sales manager in the publishing business. Ed was a very devoted member of the Ukrainian Orthodox church. He found much strength in his faith. Ed was a member of TVC (Men's Association) and at the time of his death, President of the Order of St. Andrews, Winnipeg Branch. He is survived by his devoted wife of forty-four years, Olga (Iwasiuk) of Winnipeg; children, Donna (Bob) Talbot, Bill (Deb), Edward Jr. (Colette); grandchildren, Jennifer and Curtis Talbot, Blair and Laurel Mukanik, all of Winnipeg. He is also survived by a brother Bill Mukanik, Edmonton; and sister Mary (John) Ritchie of Sherwood Park, Alta.; many family and friends in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Ed was predeceased by his mother Barbara Slywka in 1997, sister-in-law Barbara in 1997, mother-in-law Mary Iwasiuk in 1996, stepfather Peter in 1994, and his father John in 1948. Shirley was born on April 20, 1935 in Fort William, Ontario. She was employed with the Calgary Board of Education for twenty years at Branton Junior High and F.E. Osborne Junior High. NEUFELD _ Jacob Wiebe Neufeld passed away at the Rockyview Hospital, Calgary, after a courageous battle with cancer on August 31, 1997 at the age of 68 years. PATEY _ Mrs. Esther Katherine Patey (nee Walker) of Calgary, passed away at her residence on August 29, 1997 at the age of 81 years. Esther was born and raised in Antelope, Saskatchewan. She married James Somerville and had two sons, James and Angus. After James' death in 1958 she moved to Calgary and married George Patey with whom she lived with for the past thirty-one years. POFFENROTH _ Mrs. Mary Kathrine Poffenroth of Calgary passed away peacefully at the Dr. Vernon Fanning Care Centre on August 31, 1997 at the age of 92 years. SINCLAIR _ Ruby, aged 91 years, went to be with her Lord on September 1, 1997, beloved mother of Ronald Sinclair and his wife Janet of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Barbara Morgan and Donna Nielsen of Calgary. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruby was predeceased by her husband Donald Roy in 1985, two sisters, Johanna Clark, Elizabeth David, two brothers, Jack and James Robertson. Mrs. Sinclair was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, December 27, 1905 and came to Canada in 1907 and to Calgary in 1925. TAUBERT _ Ted, loving husband of Marie and exceptional father of Richard (Bernice), Barry (Cheryl), JoAnn (Bruce) Cole and Sherri (Mark) Skibsted, passed away suddenly in Rosebud, AB, September 1, 1997 at the age of 56. He was dearly adored and loved by his grandchildren, Colleen, David, Barbara, Tyler and Bradley. Ted is also survived by his three brothers, Art (Dianne), Hussar, AB, Ed (Hazel), Calgary, AB, and Albert (Joanne), Hussar, AB; his mother-in-law Betty Watson, Strathmore, AB; sister-in-law Barbara (Romayne) Gregory, Standard, AB; brother-in-law Douglas (Charlotte) Watson, Bassano, AB; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Kate Taubert, June 1992, and his father-in-law Bill Watson, August 1979. Ted was raised in Rosebud, AB and moved to Calgary when he married Marie in 1961. He was employed with Palm Dairies Ltd. for twenty-nine and a half years and in 1991 began working for Foothills Creamery. Ted will be remembered for twenty-five years of dedication to coaching, both baseball and hockey, in the Crossroads Community and the Northeast Athletic Association. He enjoyed golfing with his most cherished times being in Rosebud. All who know him will remember the eighth tee through the window of his childhood home. TURNBULL _ Reta (age 70) and Sam (age 69) Turnbull of Airdrie passed away in an automobile accident near Sundre, Alberta on Monday, September 1, 1997. Reta was born August 13, 1927. Sam was born July 1, 1928. Both were born in Birch Grove, Nova Scotia. As childhood sweethearts they were married on February 11, 1944. Sam and Reta later moved to Toronto and Winnipeg, before moving to Calgary in 1968. Reta enjoyed a long and active service with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness. She also enjoyed gardening and wild life. Sam left school at a young age to work in the coal mines of Glace Bay and through self education later became production manager in the canning and bottling industry. Sam was an avid outdoorsman and together Sam and Reta enjoyed camping and fishing. They were the loving parents of Joyce Kyme of Red Deer, Wayne and Ruthann Turnbull of Calgary, Barbara and Brad Bennett of Airdrie, Phillip and Dora Turnbull of Calgary, and Blair and Linda Turnbull of Calgary; also eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. They will be lovingly remembered by their many brothers and sisters. ULLRICH _ Stoney "Joey" Joseph passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 1997 at the age of 16 years. He will be greatly missed by his father Uwe; mother Janet; sisters, Cyndy and Candice; brother Frank Jr.; his loving Oma and Opa, Hans and Ursala Ullrich; grandmother Florence Friesen; special uncles, Manfred and Meiko; friend Kristin; and many aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Joey was a young man who did not let his disability slow him down. He loved country music, camping, fishing and watching his many videos. He actively participated in all his school events. YOUELL _ Leonard M., of White Rock, B.C. born 1917, Kindersley, Sask., peacefully passed away September 1,
1997. Alice, his loving wife of fifty-seven years, their son Larry (Cindy) of Toronto, and daughter Karen Harrison
(Glen) of West Vancouver will miss him dearly. Len is also survived by three brothers, William (Marion), Gerald
(Linda) and James (Robin), all of Edmonton, Alberta. He will be lovingly remembered by his five grandchildren,
David (Lisa); Kirk, Geoffrey, Alison, and Meaghan; along with his three great-granddaughters who were a
special joy to Len in his later years. As a pioneer in the Alberta Oil & Gas Industry, Len held executive positions
with Pacific Petroleums, Westcoast Energy and Petro Canada until his retirement in 1987. One of Len's greatest
pleasures was music and he loved to play the piano to entertain friends. He was an active tennis player and an
enthusiastic walker. Len was deeply committed to family, friends and community and was a gentle, caring man.
The family wishes to especially thank Dr. R. Cheyne, Reverend Brian Vickers, and the staff of the Palliative Care
Unit at Peace Arch Hospital for their wonderful support. A Celebration of Len's life will be held Friday,
September 5, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 - 28 Avenue, Surrey, BC. In lieu of
