JOY!
A Quaker Witness
(Maintained by Conrad Lindes)

God is!

God has existed since before anything else was created.  God has created everything else that exists.  God will exist when everything else has come to an end.

God knows us and loves us, and He cares what we do!

God did not just set the world spinning then step back to watch what would happen "by chance." He has created each one of us, in his image, and given each of us a Light, by which to find our  way, "that was the true Light, which lighteth every [person] that cometh into the world." John 1:9

God has sent Christ to teach us himself!

" For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people"   He 8:10
"And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest."  He 8:11
"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." Jo 14:26
"But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him."  1Jo 2:27

God has planted God has planted His divine seed in each of us...  HiHe 8:10 s divine seed in

which, if nurtured and cultivated carefully, will bear good fruit.   By this seed, if we are humble and attentive, Christ will come to us and tell us how to live His gospel!

Through Christ, God will give us the power to do what we have been told!

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."  Ac 1:8

We who believe in him and accept him as Lord are the living stones of his church, with Christ as the head of the corner.

He is our shepherd, our redeemer, our bishop, our guide, our Light, our Savior.

“In silence, without rite or symbol, we have known the Spirit of Christ so convincingly present in our quiet meetings."  God does not dwell in temples made with human hands.  We are his temples.  By His seed, Jesus Christ, He dwells in us.  We are to keep our bodies clean and holy.

Christ has mercy to forgive our sins if we repent and reform. Christ has power to trample the serpent and to deliver us from Satan's power in this life.

The Bible contains words and wisdom inspired by the Holy Spirit.  We can understand the Bible's lessons only when we are ourselves inspired by the Holy Spirit.

The word of God is Christ, who has been with God from the beginning and by whom all things have been created.

Christ, the seed of God, is here with us and in us.

Christ is the way to God. To follow him, we embrace the cross, upon which we yield our worldly lives, to take up our eternal lives of virtue and obedience.

“In silence, without rite or symbol, we have known the Spirit of Christ son convincingly present in our quiet meetings that his grace dispels our faithlessness, out unwillingness, our fears, and sets our hearts aflame with the joy of adoration. We have thus felt the power of the Spirit renewing and recreating our love and friendship for all our fellows. This is our Eucharist and our Communion.” London Yearly Meeting, 1928

We do not come to these beliefs by studying and reciting them, but by being convinced of them by personal experience through the Christ, the Word of God.

Our emphasis is not on the profession of our beliefs but in living faithfully in the Light and Power of Christ.

Church - the Body of Christ. “The church is no other thing but the society, gathering or company of such as God hath called out of the world, and wordly spirits, to walk in his light and life. The church, then, so defined, is to be considered, as it comprehends all that are thus called and gathered truly by God, both such as are yet in this inferior world, and such as having already laid down their earthly tabernacle, are passed into their heavenly mansions, which together do make up the one Catholic church... Out of which church we freely acknowledge there can be no salvation: because under this church...are comprehended all, and as many, of whatsoever nations, kindred, tongue, or people they be, though ourwardly strangers, and remote from those who profess Christ and Christianity in words, and have the benefit of the Scriptures, as become obedient to the holy light, and testimony of God, in their hearts...There may be members therefore of this Catholic church both among heathens, Turks, Jews and all the several sorts of Christians, men and women of intergrity and simplicity of heart, who...are by the secret touches of this holy light in their souls enlivened and quickened, thereby secretly united to God, and there-through become true members of this Catholic church” (Robert Barclay, 1678).

Old Drawyers Quaker Church, built in 1773, still stands...Odessa, Delaware.
