RCKLM                                           For Members Only                                 Issue 9/98

What went on during the 12th General Meeting held on 26/5/98

The guest speaker, Dr Ravi, has regretfully postponed his intended talk. He will inform us in due time as to the date on which he is able to attend the Club's meeting.

The next general meeting will be a fellowship gathering at Rtn Charlotte's place.  The fellowship is a portluck and thus all members who are attending the fellowship are to inform Rtn Charlotte of the type of dish they wish to serve.
(Members who are drinkers will be happy to note that there will be a few bottles of wine available).

Rtn Benny brought a sample of a Rotary International pin which was shown to all present. Those interested in purchasing one are to contact Rtn Benny.

Our Club's Charter Night which was scheduled to be held on 25.7.1998 has been postponed to a later date pending confirmation from both the Guest of Honour,  The Governor of Malacca and District Governor Fong Hoe Beng.  The members
have agreed that the alternate date must be on a Saturday night.

Rtn Eddie Tee gave a summary of what went on at the Charter Night of the Rotary Club of A'Formosa which was on 23.5.1998.  He noted that the Guests of Honour were TYT and DG Fong.  It was rather impresive to see fellow Rotarians coming all the way from Taiwan, Singapore, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and neigbouring clubs.  They also signed twining agreements with Rotary Clubs of Singapore Garden City and Alishan, Taiwan.  The function was a good example for and an indicator of what our Club's very own Charter Night will be.

Rtn Manimaran distributed questionnaires to members who are to answer and return the same by the next general meeting. The purpose of the questionnaire is to identify the reasons for the Club's poor attendance and also identify suggestions as to ways
of solving this problem.

Rtn Charlotte has proposed that the Club have a monthly planner for the entire Rotary year to aid in the Club's organisation of the Club's weekly agenda and the Club's various projects.

DGSR PP Tay Loo Wee has reminded members to bring in more friends for meetings so as to increase
the number of members in the Club.

DGSR PP Tay Loo Wee has spoken to DGSR PP Albert Goh about the rental of the Club's venue for meeting, the Malacca Rotary Resource Centre which is owned by the latter. The existing rate is RM6.00 per person per meeting which serves tea,
coffee and light refreshments at a minimum  rate of 20 persons i.e. RM120.00 per meeting. In order to cut cost for a relatively young club like ours, it has been suggested that the current rate be reduced. However, DGSR PP Albert Goh, after discussing this matter with the caterer, could only reduce the rate to RM5.00 per person with tea and coffee only i.e. revised fee of RM100.00 per meeting. In view of  the decrease which is only marginal, the old rate of RM6.00 will continue.

Community Service Director Rtn. K. Manimaran reported that he has spoken to Rtn. Celine, Community Service Director of Rotary Club of A’Famosa regarding a joint tree planting project.  They have agreed to do it as a joint project.

Members who have not received their “Rotarian” magazine from RI, please let CP Mark know.

CP Mark read a letter from DGSR PP Albert Goh of his pledge of 3 PHF to the District during his bid for the post of District Governor 1999/2000.  Although he did not succeed in the bid, he fulfilled his pledge of giving the money to Rotary
Foundation and the 3 persons that he has named the PHF are DG Fong, CP Lawrence Ting (RC A’Famosa) and CP Mark Koh.

Rtn. Charlotte has got a speaker on the 9th June meeting.  Her guest will speak on Thalassemia.  Don’t know what it is?  Well, come to the meeting then.
