
Robert H. Mitchell was born November 4, 1938 in Seminole, Oklahoma
and attended Seminole High School
where he was State and National Debate Champion. He received his
business degree from the University
of Oklahoma in 1960 and served with the United States Army for
two years as a Lieutenant in Germany.
He returned to the University of Oklahoma and received his Juris
Doctorate of Law in January, 1965.
From 1964 to 1969, he was with a law firm in Oklahoma City in the
trial practice of law.
From 1969 to 1971, he was general counsel of the State Insurance
Fund. From 1971 to 1973,
Mitchell was an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Oklahoma
handling civil and criminal
litigation from the courtroom to the United States Supreme Court.
From 1973 to 1975 he had his own law firm specializing in all phases
of litigation. In 1975, he took a leave
from his practice to become chief legal counsel to then Governor
David Boren of the State of Oklahoma.
At the end of his term with Governor Boren, he returned to private
practice of law.
From 1979 to 1986 he was appointed by Governor George Nigh to serve
on the Oklahoma State Pardon
and Parole Board. He served as Vice Chairman from 1979 to 1982
and Chairman from 1983 to 1987
while still engaged in the private practice of law.
Mr. Mitchell is currently practicing law in his own Oklahoma City
based law firm.
