Hi Everyone!
Here is some info about the recent Richard & Jill Show. On August 8,1998, the crowd anxiously awaited the return of the Richard & Jill Show to The Living Room in NYC. Once again, Richard Barone and Jill Sobule treated their fans to a fun, spontaneous, quick moving night of music. They gave a superb performance aided by special guests... Jill's Mom Elaine, Tony Visconti, Steve Rosenthal, & Leif Arntzen. Richard & Jill traded off songs starting the night off with my personal favorite recorded Jill song, "Resistance Song". This set the mood for a very special, memorable concert -- A night that lucky fans in attendance will remember for a very long time. The show was filmed by a French television crew so hopefully even more people will get to see this show in the future. There were many, many highlights including Jill's Mom joining her daughter for a funny bit in "Big Shoes" and Richard being joined by Tony Visconti (who he introduced as his "Dad") for the beautiful "Fade Away". Tony also performed with Richard on a cover of the David Bowie song, "The Man Who Sold The World". Tony produced, sang and played on Bowie's original version. All the songs were terrific. I loved "Hopelessly Fated" and personally hope that Richard someday records this gem. One of the most rousing performances was "Odd Girl Out" with Steve Rosenthal on jaw harp. Richard also did a killer version of "Miss Jean" by request even though he has not performed the song in awhile. Jill debuted a great great song (Billy's Theme) about the deceased jazz musician, Billy Tipton...a woman who lived her life as a man. I was very excited when Jill started to play "St. Francis". I heard the song once in Philadelphia and loved it. She could not remember all the words and decided to switch to another song. I was pleased to learn that the song she picked was my favorite of her unrecorded songs, "Mexican Wrestler". The song is a very moving tale of unrequited love which brings tears to my eyes. It is a very special song. It was great to be at the show witnessing two great artists sharing new songs and ideas as they prepare for their next solo releases. They are performing very strong material that ranks at the top of their best work. I am looking forward to hearing what Richard & Jill come up with next!

Hi,
I just wanted to tell everyone about the recent
"Richard & Jill Show". Richard Barone, along with Jill
Sobule, performed a terrific set on
Saturday, June 27th at the Living Room. The Living Room
is a intimate listening room located in NYC. "The
Richard & Jill Show" was a relaxed, casual gathering.
There was no set list...instead the audience was
treated to songs that Richard & Jill felt were right
for the moment. The night began with a incredible
version of "Odd Girl Out" and everything that followed
was just as rewarding. Every song was a gem. They
performed many new songs...some were debut
performances. A couple were so new that they were sung
with the aid of lyric notes. The setting along with the
chemistry between the two performers showed off their
great talent and wonderful personalities. The show was
at times funny and at times tenderly moving. They even
gave a sneak peek at their performance in the movie
"Next Year In Jerusalem" with a reenactment of their
brief scene. During Jill's "The Money Shot", Richard
dressed up in a sparkling shirt and fake mustache,
looking as if he stepped out of the film "Boogie
Nights" as he danced to the song. The audience was very
vocal and receptive..they could not help but fall in
love with them.
