LEAP 6

Random Leaper has himself finally joined a Web Ring: The Original ICQ WebRing (1985 sites). So, as soon as I stuck it onto my index page, I randomly leaped in to:

Elaine Deppler's Home Page. Elaine is just now celebrating the one-year anniversary of her web page. She lives in Geelong, Australia, just 75 km from Melbourne (West Coast). She is a sports fan and has individual pages to her favorites (Australian Football and Brad Bevan, the Australian Triathelete), as well as pages to Princess Diana (with no less than 5 Diana Webrings), her family's genealogy, the movie TITANIC (grumble) -- with seven webrings. She links to her favorite authors and is a member of Wattle Women (who met in January 1999) and Net Sisters. Her WebRing Page hosts about 10 rings, the first of which is the 267-member Heartland's Hallmark Ring, which led me to:

This is a really extensive site, with information about all members of this Boy Scout Troop, with links to each Scout's specific interests. They even have some clip-art, which is where I got the background for this page and all the graphics you see here (with the exception of an individual banner). Their families seem really involved, too, which is a great thing to see. As a Troop, they belong to 15 web rings around the areas of Heartland, Scouting, Kidstuff and Photography. The first one was the Ring of Scouting, which hosts 30 sites:

The 1st Durban North Journeys End Scout Troop from Durban, South Africa. This site is in need of updating; it was last done June 1, 1998, and the members have been signing the guestbook urging the Webmaster, Mike, to do just that. There is a notice board of "Upcoming Events" about which I would like to hear about or see photos. They link to numerous other troops in South Africa. From their six webrings (all scouting related), I chose the ScoutNet Ring.

Troop 264 in Pacifica, California (in the Bay Area). This site tells the history of the Troop, lists all their Eagle Scouts, the leaders and the Troop members, as well as photos of some of their more recent events. The Troop page is only one part of an extensive site run by Dave Ernst, their Assistant Scout Master, whose son Frankie is a member. From the Scouting WebRing, which claims almost 800 site members, I leaped to the next on the Ring (no random setting):

Troop 665 in Depew, New York (just east of Buffalo), whose webmaster is John Reinard. What I really love about this site is that they have included the scripts of some of their ritual ceremonies, which could be helpful for other troops. The next site on the Scouting WebRing is:

Cub Scout Pack 805, centered in Vista Grande Elementary School in Danville, California (about 40 miles east of San Francisco). The site itself is mostly an extensive list of links for scouting as well as this particular pack's local announcements, etc. Their guestbook was signed on August 16, 1998 by:

Cub Scout Pack 675, Pembroke Pines, Florida. Webbed by Judie Poirier, this site includes the usual calendar and lists of Pack Leaders with photos of their most recent doings. Plenty of links to Scouting things, with some clip-art, outdoor cooking and How To Build a good Soapbox Derby car. On October 27, 1998, their guest book was signed by:

Cub Pack 68 in Cross Lanes, West Virginia. This site explains a lot about what all the different ranks and badges mean in Cub Scouting, and all the requirements for advancement. In addition to an extensive list of Cub Packs on the Net and a lot of Scouting Links, there are links of interest to boys of Cub Scouting Age (including a Games Page!), and they are on two Web Rings. Going at random to one of the 141 sites on the Cub Scouting WebRing, I landed at:

11th Coventry Cubs' Home Page. This is a site for Cubs in Coventry, England. This site shows some photos and a quiz about their town, tells what was required of Cub Scouts 60 years earlier, as well as today. Looks like an interesting site that would be of interest to the non-British Cub Scouts. Going back on the same WebRing, I went to:

Cub Scout Pack 483 in Charleston, South Carolina. This Pack has 60 members, which is quite large for a Cub Scout Pack. What is different is a "Kids Only" area (I stayed out), a Parents area (to help support their kids) and a very large number of links. The Cub Scout Web Ring designated this site as their "Site of the Month" in January. Continuing on with the Cub Scouting WebRing, I leaped to:

This Pack, in Austin Texas, has merely one small part of a much larger site that includes Venture Crew 10, Boy Scout Troop 10, Troop 10 Venture Patrol and Tonkura Lodge 99, Order of the Arrow. Scouting in Texas seems very inter-related and organized. The Webmaster here is Danny Finch, and this site even includes a chat area. Going into the Souting the Web Webring, the one site from 69 I was taken to was:

Vietnamese Girl Scouts Troop 872. This Troop is located in Potomac, Maryland. It is a very ambitious and outdated site; the calendar of events only goes to August 1997 and has many Java functions. It does, however, link us to another topic through one of the 320 sites on the Vietnamese WebRing.

Hillary's Homepage. Hillary lives in Chicago, is a Sophomore at Benedictine University, majoring in Health Science. She has been in the U.S. for 10 years. Her site is fairly simple, but beautiful and well put together. She links to a few friends and her favorite singers: The BackStreet Boys, Celine Dion, NSync and Aqua, as well as her favorite movies: Titanic, Armeggedon and Good Will Hunting. Unfortunately, she does not link to any home pages or have a Guest Book.

END OF LEAP.
