Welcome to my Davis Lineage Page. I have been working on this line for quite some time now. I believe the information below is correct, but if you find any discrepancies please email me. I hope you find the information helpful to you, and do let me know if you have more that you would like to add. I would like to thank Doris Woodington, Garnette Sprinkle, Frank Frisby, Randall Davis, Rich Nallenweg, Phyllis, and Fred Price, to mention a few whose wonderful contributions have made this page.

David's ancestors have been a brick wall for me. During my searching I gathered much info and decided to make a page for the Davis's of that area. I have seen on a Davis DNA page that my David is linked to Uriah Davis. So indeed it does appear that David's father is a son of Uriah. Stop by my pages when you get a chance and give me your thoughts The Davis Families of Buncombe Co., North Carolina.

Please remember each bit of information found here, or elsewhere, must be researched and proved or disproved by weight of evidence by you, the researcher.

Descendants of David Davis

*****************1st Generation*****************

David Davis was born ca 1786 in North Carolina (Per 1850 Census). He married Rachel _____. Rachel was born ca 1792. According to a Deed from David to his son James in 1838, it stated that David's plantation and Mill were located on 142 acres on Sandy Mush Creek, once in Buncombe Co., which became Madison Co., North Carolina in 1851. On a side note, that 142 acres of land was purchased from James Davis, who purchased it from Reason Davis, who purchased it from Meshack Davis. Meshack purchased the land originally from Joseph Dobson in 1804. David and his family were listed in the 1810 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census with 1 male under 10, 1 male 16 - 26, and 1 female 16 - 26 years of age, the 1820 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census with 1 male 10 -16, 1 male 26 - 45, 3 females under 10, and one female 18 -26 years of age, the 1830 3rd Regiment, Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census with 2 males under 5, 1 male 5 - 10, 1 male 40 - 50, 1 female under 5, 2 females 5 - 10, 1 female 10 - 15, 1 female 15 - 20, and 1 female 30 - 40 years of age, the 1840 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census with 1 male 40 - 50, 1 female 10 - 15, and 1 female 40 - 50 years of age, and lastly in the 1850 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census Records. Question to all - In that 1850 Census the Census taker listed the head of household first, then the males, and then the females. In this census David was listed first, then his daughter Susan, then wife Rachel, and lastly daughter Eliza. Question: Due to this appearance of the listing, could it possibly mean this was David's second marriage? Just a question, do not state this as a fact, just a question. David seemed to be pretty well off as he owned 142 acres of land on Sandy Mush Creek, 200 acres of land on Walnut Creek, and 200 acres of land on Worley/Phillips/Papaw Creek at various times, and possibly more. David died on 14 Feb 1859, and Rachel died on 02 Mar 1858. They both are buried in the Crisman-Davis Cemetery, previously known as the David Davis Cemetery, Marshall, Madison Co., North Carolina. David and Rachel's children were:
