     Welcome to my McGee Genealogy Page.  This is my wife Vickie's line.   I have worked on this line for many years now. Most all of the information herein is from the Boone Co., Courthouse records, Census Records, Tax Poll records, and headstone information, and from Mike Caldwell and Peggy Wolf (Thank you both). I believe the information below is correct, but If you find any discrepancies, please email me.  This site is dedicated to my wonderful wife Vickie, my children.  Enjoy your stay.

Descendants of Richard James McGee

*****************1st Generation*****************    

     Richard James McGee was born on 14 August 1845 in Ireland.  Richard was a Union soldier during the Civil War in Co. E, of the Iowa Infantry.  He was coal miner.  He married Mary Elizabeth Murdock on 03 July 1867 in Mahoning Co., Ohio. Mary was born on 03 March 1847, probably in Youngstown, Mahoning Co., Ohio, the daughter of Michael Murdock and Elizabeth Morris?  According to Mike Caldwell, Richard came to the United States ca 1851.  Mike also states the Richard's birth date is really 07 May 1839.  He had lived in Vermont and Illinois, before making his homestead in Marcy Twp., Boone Co., Iowa.  Part of his original home still stands on Magnolia Road.  Richard became a US citizen on 08 October 1870.  He was listed in the 1870 and 1880 Marcy Twp., Boone Co., Iowa Census records with his family.  In the 1870 Census, there is a Michael McGee 17, born in Ireland living with them.  This may be his brother or a possibly a cousin.  Richard died on 17 February 1881, and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, Moingona, Boone Co., Iowa.  After Richards death Mary married Martin Meehan on 09 October 1883 in Boone Co., Iowa.  Martin was also previously married.  Mary died on 15 January 1931 and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery with her husband Richard.  Their children were (note:  I will not name the names of the children of this generation so that they may have their privacy.

1.  Isabel McGee, died young.

2. Felix McGee, born 10 January 1869 in Moingona, Boone Co., Iowa.  He married twice.  He married first to Lydia Elizabeth Miller.  Lydia was born on 21 March 1872 in Marcy Twp., Boone Co., Iowa, the daughter of James Miller and Sarah Stumbo.  Lydia died on 19 February 1891 and is buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Boone Co., Iowa.  Children: 

     aMary Ann Elizabeth, b:  08 May 1889, Boone Co., Iowa.  She married Henry Harrison Kelsey on 07 Oct 1908 in Boone Co., Iowa.  Henry was born on 21 Jun 1890.  Mary died on 12 Oct 1953, and Henry died on 19 Jan 1954.  They both are buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Marcy Twp., Boone Co., Iowa.

     bInfant son, b: 10 Feb 1891, Boone Co., Iowa, and died on the same day.  He is buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Boone Co., Iowa.

     Felix married second to Anna Waltz on 15 April 1905 in Boone Co., Iowa.  Felix died on 10 March 1939 and is buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Boone Co., Iowa.

3.  Fannie McGee, (See 2nd Generation),  born on 06 August 1872 in Moingona, Boone Co., Iowa. 

4.  Michael Murdock McGee, born on 16 October 1874 in Coal Valley, Moingona, Boone Co., Iowa.  He married Carrie Elva Miller.  Carrie was born on 06 December 1875 in Marcy Twp., Boone Co., Iowa, the daughter of James Miller and Sarah Stumbo.  Michael died on 03 March 1938, and Carrie died on 27 February 1951.  They both are buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Marcy Twp., Boone Co., Iowa.  Children:  

     a.  Rachel Rebecca McGee, b:  1894, Boone Co., Iowa.  She married Charles Ray Lincoln.  Charles was born in 1889.  Rachel died in 1972, and Charles died in 1973.  They both are buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Marcy Twp., Boone Co., Iowa.  

     b.  Harold Phillip McGee, b:  07 Aug 1897, Boone Co., Iowa.  He married Anna Vivian Groenhoff.  Anna was born on 12 Nov 1897 in Adlington, Iowa.

     c.  Raymond Edward McGee, b:  02 Nov 1901, Boone, Boone Co., Iowa.  He married Ethyl Mildred Gubrud.

     d.  Eugene Michael McGee, b: 04 Aug 1911, Boone, Boone Co., Iowa.  He married Ardis Hazel Allen.

5.  Charles McGee, born ca 1875 in Boone Co., Iowa. 

6.  William Edward McGee, born on 06 April 1878 in Boone Co., Iowa.

7.  Richard James McGee,  born in September 1880.  He never married.  He died on 07 February 1946 and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, Moingona, Boone Co., Iowa.

*****************2nd Generation*****************    

     Fannie McGee born 06 August 1872 in Moingona, Boone Co., Iowa.  She married twice.  She married first to Samuel Frank Lowry on 21 June 1902 in Boone Co., Iowa.  They had one daughter.  She was:

1.  Mary Ann Lowry, born Boone Co., Iowa.

     Fannie married second to Frederick Sylvester "Fred" Cox on 26 August 1906 in the Congregational Church, Ogden, Boone Co., Iowa.  Fred was born on 12 May 1875 in Marshall Co., Iowa, the son of John Cox and Emily M. or Abandville "Emma" James.  Fannie died on 11 February 1920, and Fred died on 21 January 1929.  They both are buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Yell Twp., Boone Co., Iowa.  Their children were:

Note:  I will not name the children of these families so that they may have their privacy.

2.  Marion John "Myron" Cox, born 15 June 1907, Boone, Boone Co., Iowa.  He migrated to Georgia.  He died in 1965.

3.  Beatrice "Bea" Cox, born 07 October 1908, Polk City, Polk Co., Iowa.  She married Rannald Oakwine Kelley on 09 May 1929 in Boone, Boone Co., Iowa.  Rannald was born on 09 February 1906 in Hamilton Co., Iowa, the son of Deaver Kelley and Clara Van Derenter.  Bea died on 22 May 1973 and Rannold died in 1986.  They both are buried in the Linwood Cemetery, Boone, Boone Co., Iowa.

Fred Ernest Cox, born 30 November 1911 in Yell Twp., Boone Co., Iowa.  He married Dorothy Ellen Staley on 24 September 1934 in St. Joseph, Missouri.  Dorothy was born on 13 December 1916 in Boone, Boone Co., Iowa, the daughter of Harry Edgar Staley and Tena Irene Miller.  Fred died on 01 July 1986, and Dorothy died on 16 May 1996.  They both are buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Pottawatamie Co., Iowa.   

5.  Woodrow Donald "Woody" Cox, born 04 July 1913 in Yell Twp., Boone Co., Iowa.

6.  Leslie Cox, born 26 September 1914 in Boone, Boone Co., Iowa.  He died on 26 October 1943 in Italy during WWII.  He is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Yell Twp., Boone Co., Iowa.
