*****************1st Generation***************** Phillip Stice was born ca 1760 probably in North Carolina, the son of Charles Carl Stice (Steiss) and Katherine/Catherine "Catey" _____. I have seen it where people have listed her maiden name as Collins and others as Long. There has been no proof as far as I know that states either one. According to the Stice Web, Steiss was changed to Stice when Phillip's father Charles became loyal to the British Crown in 1763 in lieu of a land grant. Phillip married Mary Hanes/Haynes. Mary was born ca 1760 in Bills Creek, Rutherford Co., North Carolina, the daughter of William Hanes/Haynes and Sarah ____.. Mary was listed in her fathers Will dated 1788. In that Will, William stated that her brother William was to give Mary Stice five pound for her Legacy. Their family was listed in the 1790, 1810, and 1820 Rutherford Co., North Carolina Census records. Family lore states that Phillip died on the families move to Kentucky. The 1850 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census states that Patsey was born in North Carolina and she was 43 years of age, the 1860, Madison Co., North Carolina Census, states she was 40 years of age. The 1880 Marshall, Madison Co., North Carolina Census states that she was 65 years of age. What we do know for sure is that Patsey married Peter Thomas on 20 November 1820 in Rutherford Co., North Carolina. Peter was born ca 1799-1808 in North Carolina. Patsey and Peter were listed in the 1880 Marshall, Madison Co., North Carolina Census, living with J. M. and Catherine S. Ramsey. I have not been able to find their final resting place, however, in one of the Cemeteries of Madison Co., North Carolina books, written by Jan C. Plemmons, state that there was an old abandoned cemetery that the Thomas family used to use to bury their kin in. This cemetery is called Grassy Creek Hilltop Cemetery in Madison Co., North Carolina. There are no headstones there, but their son Noah is buried there. I am therefore thinking that this may be their resting place.
