Anime Web Rings:
What are web rings? What web rings do is serve as a sort of guide to other related sites. One person starts a ring, and a bunch of other sites join it. Soon, a bunch of web pages pertaining to the ring criteria are connected to each other so they are all easy to connect to. This way, more hits are achieved on a web page - sort of like an advertisement. The anime rings listed here are just a few of a TON out there for anime - there are usually multiple rings for each popular anime title/series. For the rings listed below, I tried to find the larger rings but there are probably larger ones. For more information about web rings, try looking at the Web Ring Organization Homepage.Ah! But first, what the ratings mean - I don't know though, this star concept is kind of complicated. Also indicated is the version of the film I saw, either the subtitled or dubbed english version.
***** - Damn this is good!
****- Pretty good, you probably don't want to be missing this one.
*** - Not great, not horrible - maybe the comic book would be more enjoyable.
** - Hmm....what to watch? This or 90210? Oh wait! Melrose Place is on!
* - It doesn't get any worse than this - which is why this is deserving of the distinguished single star.
Title | Subtitled or Dubbed | Rating | Commentary |
Akira | dub | **** | Pretty good, for a dubbed anime. This is one of the more reknown anime titles - although a bit confusing at times, a great film overall. |
Appleseed | sub | *** | It was kinda boring, but some may think otherwise because it addresses a serious issue. |
Battle Angel | dub | **** | This one isn't bad, not bad storyline and good art . This anime is also known as Gunnm or Battle Angel Alita . |
Cyber City Odeo 808 data 1 | sub | *** | Interesting theme, can't say too much about the film itself though. |
Dominion (Tank Police) | sub | **** | This was the anime that started it all for me - fairly good (and funny). |
Fist of the North Star | dub | **** | If you like loads of killing with blood and guts spilling everywhere along with a slew of characters, this one might be made for you! |
Judge | sub | *** | OK at best, plot wasn't that impressive. |
MD Geist | sub | ** | Boring. The back of the box looked cool though. |
Mermaid's Forrest | sub | **** | Another great title done by the infamous Rumiko Takahashi (creater of Ranma 1/2) - kind of slow paced though. |
Mermaid's Scar | dub | *** | I don't know if it was the english dub or just the story line that ruined this sequel to Mermaid's Forrest. |
Ranma 1/2 series | sub/dub | ***** | This is just one of the best series I've ever seen - very humorous too! I think I've said enough about this anime on this page already. =) |
Ranma 1/2 Movie 1 | dub | *** | This movie wasn't all so great - the plot was kinda stupid and it wasn't even that funny or enjoyable to watch. I sure hope the other movies are better than this! |
Record of Lodoss Wars | sub | ***** | Wow, this is one great series - the storyline and the characters are especially good! This series will especially appeal to any RPG or Dragonlance(and the like) fans. |
Tenchi Muyo! OAV series | sub | ***** | The OAV (made for home release) series is great! Just wish I could see how the regular is. |
Tenchi in Love (Tenchi Muyo! the movie) | dub | *** | OK at best. I didn't find watching the movie very enjoyable - rather boring to watch. |
Urusei Yatsura | sub | **** | Don't let the somewhat old and nutty video boxes deceive you to be a bad anime, cause this one is pretty good! I think it was this series which popularized Rumiko Takahashi, creator of Ranma 1/2. The series is pretty funny but the comedy gets old, fast , and the art is rather rough. As you watch these series, it's pretty interesting how you can see how much of the art/characters from Ranma 1/2 develop from the characters in this anime. |
Urusei Yatsure Movies 2, 3 & 4 | sub | *** | I didn't like these movies very much. Rather than having a comedic approach to the plots, they were all rather dark and weren't very enjoyable. Probably scared the little kids. =) |
Urusei Yatsure Movie 6 | sub | ***** | Now this is what all Lum movies should be like. This 10th anniversery film was the best out of all the ones I've seen. The plot is great (in its own way), the story line is funny, and the art is so much better than the earlier movies! Plus, all the characters from the series were implemented into the storyline somehow so that is pretty neat. If you're going to rent any Lum movie, #6 is the way to go. |
Vampire Hunter D | dub | *** | Kinda cool plot, but I really didn't like the english translation. |
Vampire Princess Miyu | sub | ** | Storyline isn't that great, neither are the characters - good artwork though. |
The Venus Wars | sub | * | Ugg, I think the title is the only thing that made me rent this poor waste of a video tape. |
So what do I think about this card game? I really don't have too much to say about it. The game isn't all that fun, and the game seems to play rather awkwardly. I probably need to play it more to get a real feel for the game but from my impressions of the game, that first one was my last one. Actually the only reason why I bought the cards was because of the anime theme, nothing else. Hey, but there's one good thing to the cards - they have a nice shiny coating on them.
Ani-Mayhem is a card game which is designed around four popular(according to Pioneer Entertainment) anime series - Ranma 1/2, Tenchi Muyo!, El Hazard, and Bubblegum Crisis. Unlike Magic the Gathering, this game is designed for solitare play (one person game) as well as for multiple players. The game is initially rather difficult to learn, but it may be easier for others. However the artwork on the cards is really good (taken from video clips) and the cards have a nice finish to them so they aren't too flimsy.
Check out the following sites for some info on Ani-Mayhem :
The Authorized Ani-Mayhem Home Page - The official Any-Mayhem home page maintained by Pioneer, the people who made the game. Check this place out for the official and most current info pertaining to Ani-Mayhem.
Ani-Mayhem Sailor Moon Edition - A different web page created by some other people. Lots of illustrations of the game and extra rules/variants for a Sailor Moon edition.
Ani-Mayhem Archive - Another nice Ani-Mayhem info page - lots of visuals.
