On the day this CD came out I rushed out to buy it knowing that I could expect a quality product from Rob Zombie the singer from the infamous White Zombie. The Cd booklet is packed with comic pages, pictures and unfortunately very little of Rob's amazing art. The comic pages and some of the art is done by other people. Anyways, enough about the packaging and on to the product. Rob's music is very similar to White Zombie's but is still a progression beyond AstroCreep. More technology is used and middle eastern sounds are used in several places. Samples are less frequent and shorter but well. One of Hellbilly Deluxe's few drawbacks is the fact that the song "How to Make a Monster" seems to be included in demo form and is very quiet. On one song, "Phantom Stranger" Rob's vocals sound exactly like Marlyn Manson. The best songs inmo are Superbeast, Spookshow Baby Living Dead Girl and Demonoid Phenomenon. This disc satisfied my need for Zombie products until when and if a new White Zombie album is released. Definately worth the cash!
This Cd is definately one of my favorite releases of 98. Evry single song is great. The use of seven string guitars have made the guitar sound thicker, and the drumming is still mechanical sounding but at the same time more human. The Vancouver Chamber Orchestra even makes a guest apperance on two tracks. Samples are only present on a couple of songs and more keyboards are used than on Demanufacture. The opening song Shock has several extremely loud base at the start. The whole album is an excellent mix of melody (Descent, Timelessness and Resurection)and brutality ( Shock, Hi-Tech Hate and Obsolete) The album is a Terminator type science fiction concept album like Demanufacture but the songs are all linked by a story by Burton C. Bell called Conception 5. This Disc is definately a worthy addition to my collection. I can't wait to see them opening for slayer on Aug 4th!!
After hearing Du Hast many times, I decided to buy this album, and it was a very good decision. Rammstein's sound could be best described as techno-industrial-metal simmilar to Rob Zombie. The Cd as a whole is excellent except for the English versions of Du Hast and Engel which do not sopund nearly as good as the German. The best songs on the album are the title track, Tier and Du Hast. The songs are populated by driving techno like beats and heavy industrial guitar riffs. The vocals are similar throughout the record except in a couple of spots where the singer sings melodically. At first I was put off by all the lyrics being in German, but even though I don't understand most of them the songs sound better in German than in English as exemplified by the English versions of Du Hast and Engel which imo should not have been included. Aside from the two English versions this album is excellent and definately worth buying.
When I first bought this CD, I found the vocals to be sort of well, annoying. The vocalist's style consists of a pretty good hardcore, shouty voice, a weird high pitched whiny voice, some normal singing and at one point he sounds like an old lady or something. Now I quite like this band.Their music an uncategorizable meshing of hardcore, metal, mediteranian music and other styles. Their lyrics are quite political at times. Ie PLUCK "Revolution the only solution, the armed response of an entire nation". The best songs are: suite-pea, Sugar, War and Darts. I definately recommend this cd if you like hard music and are open-minded!
The best album of the year!!! A masterpiece!! A must have!!!! Anathema return withe the even awesomer follow up to the excellent Eternity. Vocalist Vincent Cavanagh has taken singing lessons and his singing has improved tremendously (the one downfall being some of the emotion heard on Eternity such as The Beloved is lost but it is still for the better. The music on this disc is less layered than on Eternity (not a million tracks per song 8v])and the more stripped down approach works extremely well. The subject matter of the songs is still doom and gloom and at times the music can be downright eerie (Alternative 4). The songs still contain keyboards and acoustic guitars as well as distorted guitars. On a couple tracks violin has been added!!!! The best songs are: Fragile Dreams, Empty, Regret, Feel and the rest of the album (not a single sleeper). If you are a fan of Anathema or even if you are not, buy this CD you will not be dissapointed!!!
