Welcome to the DIGITAL DOWSING PAGE - Methods and Tips website! |
|
This is your homepage, the starting point and central document of your personal website. It should be well-organized, interesting to read, and have purpose. To determine a purpose, the reason why it exists, you need to ask yourself several questions. What are you trying to convey with this page? What information do you have at your site that you want people to read about? Are you giving each section of your site equal space and attention on this page? Do they warrant equal attention?
Once you have decided the purpose of your homepage, remember that it will be used as a navigational aid as well. Even with navigational graphics, site maps, and text-navbars, people will always come back to "home" to find items. The homepage is the most important leaping off point at the site.
In your main content section, you might want to link to specific items at the rest of the site. For example if you recently received an award, it would make sense to have a link to the Awards page. Likewise, easily visible links to the Search page, the News page, and other frequently used pages are very helpful.
