Before renouncing his worldly life and profession, Swami Nirviseshananda Tirtha was a Physicist - a Scientist and Assistant Professor in the Radar & Communication Centre of Indian Institute Of Technology, Kharagpur, India.

Question: "Swamiji, what made you suddenly switch over from a successful scientific career to a wholesome spiritual pursuit?"

Answer: "Well, neither was it sudden, nor was it a 'switching over' from one to the other. It was a gradual natural development. Right from my young days in the school, I have been a seeker of the Ultimate Reality. Spiritual pursuit and scientific enquiry have always played a complementary role in my life till my mind naturally opted for renunciation and wholesome dedication to spiritual life."
