STUDENT AWARENESS OF FIRE EDUCATION

S.A.F.E PROGRAM 2000

         S.A.F.E. Educator Firefighter Dave Simon visited Conte Middle School on January 5+ 6, 2000. Ms. Hiedemen's 7th grade health class learned about  E.D.I.T.H.  Exit Drills in the Home. Students also learned about Fire Extinguishers , and particapated in a hands on demonstration with a Fire Extinguisher. They learned the PASS-word; Pull the pin, Aim low, Squezze the handle, Sweep side to side. All students had a chance to discharge a Fire Extinguisher and enjoyed this class very much.        S.A.F.E. will be visiting Greylock School in February, 2000. Sullivan School will be in the end of February and the Begining of March. Brayton School in April and Drury High School before the end of the school year.

    -Lung Disease + "Second-hand Smoke
    -38% of fire deaths cause by careless smoking
        -Largest single cause of fire deaths

-Matches + Lighters
     -3% of fires caused by "children with fire"
     -Matches + Lighters Safety
          -Never touch matches or lighters

-Smoke Detectors 
    -Smoke detectors in the home
    -Change the Batteries 2 times each year

-Fire Drills
     -E.D.I.T.H - Escape Drills in the home
           -Call 9-1-1
           -Street Box Fire Alarms
                  -False Alarms are illegal
           -Fire Drills in School
-Stop, Drop + Roll
-Escalator Safety
-School Bus Safety
