Wouldn't Juha Ylonen look good in the lineup right now? His teammates
feed off of his speed, checking and energy. The fans also get behind Ylonen
because of his highly-publicized struggles to score a goal last season.
All Coyotes fans want Juha to pop the puck in the net and the crowd's noise
level increases whenever he gets a chance to light the lamp.
Ylonen Re-signed! - 5/5/99
The Coyotes have re-signed forward Juha Ylonen, who would have been
a restricted free-agent at season's end, to a three-year contract. Terms
were not available. "It's OK and I'm very happy," Ylonen said. "They (Coyotes)
came to me about it a month ago and we got in done about two weeks ago,
just before I broke my foot. I'm going to be in the Valley for a couple
weeks after the season, then I'm going home to Finland for the summer and
start working for next year."
The 6-1, 182-pound Ylonen, 27, played in 59 contests for the Coyotes
this season, setting career highs in games, goals (six), assists (17),
points (23) and penalty minutes (20). The native of Finland ranked second
on the team behind Keith Tkachuk in plus-minus rating with a plus-18.
On Being on the Olympic team:
To play with the best players in my country and play against the best
from all over the world will be a real thrill for me," says Ylonen, a native
of Helsinki. "I have played international tournaments before, but this
seems more special with all the talented players who will be going over
there."

After leading the Falcons in scoring last year, the 26-year-old Juha
Ylonen is in first full NHL season, primarily as a utility man on the third
or fourth line. While he'll never be able to put up the type of points
that he did in Springfield, Ylonen brings excellent skills to the table.
He's a very skilled center with exceptional playmaking and a good stickhandling
ability. Juha has stellar hockey sense and hasn't made many glaring mistakes.
But what coach Schoenfield loves best about Ylonen is his grittiness; rarely
will he shy away from physical play and he loves to mix it up in all the
high traffic areas. He's earned a regular spot with the Coyotes and his
lethal combination of toughness and finesse will prove invaluable.
