A preacher's daughter, my grandmother (whom we called 'Dottie')
moved around a lot when she was
young. She was born in Roanoke, Alabama. The center picture was taken
in Florence, AL, possibly when she was a college student there.
She was the supervisor for elementary schools in Tuscaloosa County,
and the Vice-President of the Alabama State Teachers' Association.
Her brother Elbert was the President of UNA and the Alabama statewide
superintendent of education.
My grandmother lived with my family off-and-on for the last years
of her life. She founded and taught a sunday school class at First United Methodist
Church of Tuscaloosa for some fifty years.
