8thRRFS Phu Bai

My twin brother Don and I in 1968 prior to service in Vietnam.
Although Don was not with the ASA I have posted this picture as a small memorial in his memory. Don is on the left. Don was a grunt with the 82nd Airborne Div 1968-9.
I served with the Army Security Agency, 509th RRG, 8thRRFS Phu Bai as a 05H "diddy bopper".
Don was killed in 1977 by a drunk driver in Lakewood, California.

Army Security Agency Training School was located in Ayers, Mass at Ft. Devens (now closed).

The above Unit Citation was awarded to various units of the 509th Radio Research Group in Vietnam.
The citation was awarded by the South Vietnamese Govt and was the Gallantry Cross w/Palm

The patch on the left is the Lightning Fast Chicken Plucker(ASA patch)
and on the right side is a patch that several of us had a local sew for us while at Phu Bai.
It was not unusual to work 90 days at 12 hours per before getting 1 day to relax.

One of my favorite events is attending Rendezvous. These events recreate the era of Mountain Men and Fur Trappers.
Most events require pre-1840 attire and primitive camping (although modern areas usually available for those without proper equipment).
One can join in with blackpowder shooting competition, hawk throws, fire starting contests or relax and enjoy the music and swap BS stories.

I live in Fremont, CAabove San Jose.
I used to work as a Manufacturing Manager for a Injection Molding(ITW Camtex) facility (thermoplastic).But it was closed down.
I love theMonterey/Pacific Grove area for its coastline and sea otters, as well as all the other critters in the area.
Especially the deer that hang out at the golf course and the cemetary.

Beautiful Mt. Shasta in Northern California.
The surronding areas are great for sightseeing from Upper and Lower Burney Falls, town of McCloud and Lassen Vol Ntl Park.

Rafting in Northern California is a favorite pastime for some..
