Thousands of men, women and children were annihilated during the Second World War; victims of a madman who believed that they were not equal to other humans, simply by virtue of their race. They were rounded up like animals, stripped of property, valuables, and professions, then herded off to concentration camps where Hitler hoped to terminate their entire race. One might argue that the lucky ones were those who were put to death immediately, that the ones who survived their years in concentration camps, suffered more. Luckily, they did survive, to tell the truth of those awful years, of the indignities suffered, of the lives extinguished. Only by learning of them, and reading their stories, can we attempt to make any sense of this at all. A wealth of talent survived these death camps. We must NOT allow ourselves to forget!
