Subject: Why Road Rovers Got Cancelled

Message:
I believe the reason Road Rovers got cancelled after one season was probably due to the fact of either bad ratings, not enough episodes, or not enough fans watching the show. Now it's on Cartoon Network but in reruns of Season #1.

I'm hoping that if Warner Bros. Animation has second thoughts, it will decide to bring RR back to its channel again with new episodes for Season #2 titled ROAD ROVERS GENERATION 2! Also new characters would be joining on both sides of good and evil such as...

Alethia - Spitz Canosapien From Japan (Created by RR Fans) Anabelle - Angel-Whippet Canosapien From Heaven (All Dogs Go To Heaven The Series) Balto - Wolf Canosapien From Canada (Balto Animated Movie) Jenna - Husky Canosapien From Canada (Balto Animated Movie) Missy - Coyote Canosapien From Mexico (Hank The Cowdog) Belledona - Devil-Whippet Canomutant From Hell (All Dogs Go To Heaven The Series) Steele - Husky Canomutant Bully (Balto Animated Movie) Carmen SanDiego - Crimeboss #1 (Where On Earth Is Carmen SanDiego?) Nimnul - Professor (Disney's Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers) McLeach - Poacher (Disney's Rescuers Down Under)

In Road Rovers Generation 2...Hunter, Colleen, Blitz, Exile and the Master create the RR Academy and begin training new recruits to join the Fantastic Four. Those recruits are Anabelle, Alethia, Missy, Jenna and Balto. Meanwhile Parvo and Groomer also begin training new allies on their side who are Carmen, Nimnul, McLeach, Steele and Belledona! Muzzle aka Scout is put through the TransDogmifier or TDM and remorphed into the good canosapien form himself who also begins his training at the academy. At the same time Parvo timewarps to the year 2029 aka Judgement Day, breaks into Cyberdyne System, steals the SkyNet program along with the Terminator T-800 endoskeleton robots and uses the killer machines to begin taking over earth in 1999, destroy the Road Rovers and asassinate the Master! Plus the fire-breathing monster known as Godzilla joins up on the side of the Rovers!

I sure hope that happens in Season #2, if and when it comes out on WB-Kids. Bye for now and may the force be with you always.

My reply to that:

Well, Scott, the ratings definitetly weren't a problem for the Rovers, so you can forget thinking about bad ratings. Although doing the program as you said would bring legal problems, spoofing's OK. Here's a part of "Abomination of the Lurker" (Let me emphasize a part of it):

Producer-"Guys, I've got bad news." Rovers-"Yeah?" Producer-"I got a call from the network. I'm really sorry Rovers, but the show has been canceled." Rovers-"What?!" Hunter-"How can this happen?" Blitz-"You're lying, aren't you?" Colleen-"This can't be true." Exile-"Bolshoid!" Shag-"Ruff!" Hunter-"How can this be? All season our ratings have equaled or matched that show that comes on right before us." Producer-"Look you guys. It's not my call. But there are plenty of jobs out there for toons. If talented toons like you you'll be snatched up in no time. Pick up your last paychecks and head for the reassignment office. They might have something for you there." Parvo-"And to think we only did 13 episodes. This is not fair." Groomer-"I'm gonna miss this place."

I don't want to be a pain in the ass about this, and maybe someday I won't have to, but right now the volume of your questions, relative to the volume of questions from anyone else, INCLUDING ME, is starting to make this look like a one person show, and that's not what I intended. If you have questions for the whole group, I'll look at them, but if you want to follow up on every answer I get from the Rovers, you'll have to get used to the fact that not all your questions will be answered, much less put on the website.

My reply to that:

Well, I didn't intend this to be a one-man show either, so to all those netizens out there, if you wanna ask anything to the Rovers, send it here. Plus I'm currently considering putting a page with my questions on my site.

Subject: My version for Road Rovers Generation 2
Date: Thu, 26 Nov 1998

Message:
Dear Sir,
I am thinking, that if Warner Bros. Animation decides to bring back Road Rovers onto their WB-Kids lineup again it
would be called ROAD ROVERS GENERATION 2. However, this is different than the last letter I sent. Here it is:
In G2, the Master undergoes plastic reconstructive facial surgery to regain his handsome self of William Alan Shepherd again. Next, he and his Fantastic Four of Hunter, Exile, Colleen and Blitz build a training school known as ROAD ROVER ACADEMY. Then the Professor tours around the globe, looking for new recruits such as...
                                                        Alethia - Spitz-Husky from Japan
                                                        Jeff - Greyhound from USA
Star - German Shepherd from USA
Xander - German Shepherd from USA
Spirit - Border Collie from USA
Penny - Dalmatian from Domonican Republic
Dervish - Sheltie Sheepdog from ????
                                                        Ricky - Husky-Wolf from ????
Dylan - Crossbreed Mutt from ????
Muzzle - aka Scout from USA
                                                        Cricket - Terrier from ????
                                                        Sierra - Malamute from ????
*Anabelle* - Angel Whippet from Heaven
                                                        *Balto* - Wolf from Canada
                                                        *Jenna* - Husky from Canada
                                                        *Missy* - Coyote from Mexico

The ones I have the asterik next to means they are animated dogs from other cartoon show/movies. Missy is from the short-story Hank The Cowdog on CBS StoryBreak, Anabelle is from All Dogs Go To Heaven The Series, Balto and Jenna are from the Balto animated movie. With these new recruits called THE JUNIOR ROVERS, Dr. Shepherd would train these new cadets in crimefighting, rescuing hostages and so forth.
Meanwhile the evil General Parvo, in his quest of world domination begins hiring new cadets of his own, such as...
*Belledona* - Devil Whippet from Hell
                                                        *Steele* - Husky from Canada
*Carmen SanDiego* - Crimeboss Agent Spy from
                                                        ????
                                                        *Nimnul* - Professor from ????

These 4 villians would be the new recruits to join forces with Parvo and Groomer. Belledona is also from the All Dogs Go To Heaven The Series (She is the twin cousin of Anabelle), Steele is from the Balto movie, Carmen is from the Where On Earth Is Carmen SanDiego? cartoon show and Nimnul is from the Disney's Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers.
Time and time again, the cyborg terrorist leader of his EMPIRE CLAN sends his goons to do his dirty work deeds. But each time the Road Rovers and Junior Rovers stop his plans of conquering earth in the year 2000 again and again. It would probably have new actors voicing each character, new episodes and so forth.
I'm not sure if that is what Road Rovers Generation 2 will look like, if it ever returns to WB-Kids. Bye for now.
Scott nWo Oliverson

My reply to that:

Thank god you aren't sure! I personally don't like any of your ideas from either letter, they'd make the show lose the bite it had in the 1st season (clever pun there). Also I suggested in my 1st letter reply that no crossovers would be allowed. Please comply to them... Not that I mind crossovers, it's the authorites who do.

Ratings for "Road Rovers" on Kids WB were terrible. Or are you talking about a non-American cartoon network? IMHO, the show wasn't thought through before they started animating; the themes wandered all over the place, and the same problem is cropping up in "Histeria!"
>Now there is a site especially for WB stuff. it's at acmecity.com. we ought to post anti-kellener stuff on it since he's responsible for the loss of freakazoid, earth worm jim and, more recently, animaniacs.
Starting a pogrom, are we? In case you haven't heard, there have been many shakeups at Kids WB. There are rumors (I don't know how close they are) that the President of the network is being replaced.
But even if that's true, blaming one individual for the changes you mentioned isn't fair. "Freakazoid" was a fanboy favorite, but it didn't amuse a lot of the core audience of kids. "Earthworm Jim" was, let's face it, another superhero parody, plowing the same field as "The Tick." And "Animaniacs" has been on the air for years; the show had parodied just about everything possible, and there was no place else for Warner's animators to go.
What might be a more beneficial thing to do is to suggest Warner animate something that wasn't full of pop-culture parodies; the people creating and writing their funny cartoons have burnt out, although their serious cartoons like "Batman Beyond" are doing well. Heck, maybe they could hire Bobcat Goldthwait to do something like "Bobcat's Big Ass Cartoon Show," and it'd at least be different.

My reply to that:

Well if you read the first feedback letter reply, I might say on the contrary. Besides, I personally hate their serious stuff. I mean, they've been doing comedy cartoon series for years! Why switch to drama, when you've got a winning formula with comedy? Trust me, you can find more reasons to save the show if you go to RUFF. Also, if I can't blame Jaimie alone for these cancellations, then why are others doing it? Guess they're under the same impression as me, huh?

Note: By the way, this reply comes from the fact I now have an account on Dejanews. (Since then, it's changed to just plain Deja, and is now part of Google.)

My reply to that:

I can accept this. But as you can see, RR didn't get any new episodes. Just the same old ones over and over.

Subject: My RR Cancelation Theory
Message:
Hello, I saw your RR web page while wanting to see what the Rugrats MiSTing  page was like. Personally, I have two possible theories as to why the show  may got cancelled after just one season.
1. The E/I rule, Batman, and MIB. Obviously, Kids' WB needed some educational  programs for the 1997-1998 season, and thus cancelled shows that they feel weren't that important to fill up the E/I shows, Batman on KWB, and the animated MIB show.
2. Five words: Kellner is a Brain-dead Idiot. Though it was nice to have him put Pokemon on the KWB line-up, Jamie Kellner, the head of the WB, had absolutely no clue as to what adult cartoon viewers enjoy on KWB, as seen with the cancelations of good shows, the Pinky, Elmyra, and the Brain concept, and the idea of having only one new episode of Animaniacs for the 1998-1999 season. Thus, my best guess is that the cancelation of RR was because of Kellner being a complete dope.

Road Rovers come back!
Road Rovers was the best canine show on the air because this was the first time I've seen a canine walk on two legs and act like a human and unlike other half human and half animal characters they don't have dog hind legs to walk on which would not look very good on them. They are as cool as the japanese who made Shinning Force and Emblem of justice video game with wolfs who also had human bodies just like the Road Rovers and some other animal characters I've seen on video games.
