Winx Club: Cut It Out!
A guide to edits made by 4Kids to Winx Club
Back to School
New season, new fairy, new villain, and pixies. Bring in the edits:
Rearrangement: Once again, 4Kids opens the show with a rearrangement. The first segment covers from Bloom arriving at Alfea straight to Bloom consulting Concorda (the psychic pixie, instead of pixie of the hidden archives... and I will explain later). Originally, the new season opens with what is now the 2nd segment portion.
Not an edit: Side note time! Last season, 4Kids did the switcheroo to get into the action immediately after the action-less scenes. This season, they do the switcheroo to get to Bloom ASAP, and save the action with Layla for later.
Rearrangement: Actually, the show in the original covers from Layla climbing the cliff all the way to Layla being thrown off another, before cutting to Alfea. After that they show events at Alfea all the way to the re-opening of the rebuilt section (named The Dragonfire Wing in the US dub), minus the scene of the boys and girls talking at the quad (in the edited, they're talking about fashions, and when Stella suggests a small change could do Musa good, she immediately replies that the doesn't want to lose her pigtails [re: Spelled]). Then they show Digit and co. getting drained, before showing the boys and girls at the quad (Stella does talk a bit about fashion, but as Timmy and Tec come back from calibrating the simulator she says about them, "Do I even have to say anything at this point?" with Musa replying, "It wouldn't be Stella if she didn't have the last word"), the boys leaving, and then Layla arriving. That's a lot of rearranging there...
Rewrite: The first US segment ends with Concorda making a prediction about a new friend arriving. No such thing in the other version... she explains to Bloom the whole deal with pixies, bonding and pixie pets, also revealing that she's bonded to the hidden archives. (They're hidden for a reason: Codex, anyone?)
Rewrite: Stella is having a problem with her clothes due to her internship at Teen Fairy. (In fact, there is a narration talking about how the other fairies besides Bloom have spent the summer.) Over here, Stella is having problems because there's a party and she's forgotten what clothes Brandon's seen her in.
Name change: The new fairy is renamed from Aisha to Layla. (However, this is also the case in all non-Italian versions. So, not really.)
Princess of Tides
Darkar frees the Trix, and Layla/Aisha talks about herself. Major edit!
Rewrite: A "backwards" edit... the original version plays out its cards by mentioning during a scene with Darkar that the Codex he is looking for is in pieces, and where they are. In the dub, LD is pondering getting some help. Which sets up the next edit... Rearrangement: The entire "Darkar heading to Light Haven to bust out the Trix and give them Gloomix jewelry" bit is one long clump that plays out towards the end in the original. The scene where Layla introduces herself to the Winx in the hospital room and talks about her situation is also one long clump. And even we're not supposed to find out Layla's a princess until 2x13.
Into the UnderRealm
Faragonda puts together a pixie-rescuing mission.
Removal: About 15 seconds of Layla running into Knut the janitor has been removed. (Here's Knut!)
Addition: Part of the UnderRealm "exam" is taken straight from the actual mission. Granted, the original version does show the same shot of Bloom shooting a few monsters in the actual mission, but not here. (Back in "Royal Heartbreak", Rainbow repeated the same shot of hoverbikes rounding a corner at RF three times: twice during practice, and again during the actual exhbition, although in the exhibition, they cut out the part where it shows the teachers on the empty stands.) There's also a shot of Layla unleashing her powers at, er, something, which is not used at the actual original point which is during the mission, so Layla transforms, and then isn't needed until she seals the door. Another side-effect of this edit is that it makes it no longer surprising for Bloom to find out Layla is a fairy. Hard time following? Watch this clip to see what I mean. (She later reveals that the caves' draining effect doesn't just affect "fairies from Andros", like herself.)
Not an edit: Actually, sort of an edit. Every time the Winx transform, even if they're not in their usual S1 outfits, 4Kids often shows the part of the transformation sequence which shows these outfits. Rainbow is more careful than this. (Okay, they do have Flora and Musa turn into fairies without a transformation sequence during the "exam".)
Rewrite: The whole deal with the exam is a long piece of rewrite. FG wants Bloom, Stella and Layla to head on the mission. Bloom has the Dragonfire, Stel has sunshine power that can be used against shadow monsters, and Layla knows her way around the caves. As the others make their case, FG suggests that Tecna can use her technopowers to track the group through the cave. FG transforms the main hall into a cave, and Flora discovers that there are no plants in the caves to user her powers with, and Musa discovers that her sound powers cause cave-ins.
Rearrangement: The first scene in the cave is originally split by the scene with the other girls and boys at Alfea.

Queen of Perfection
Brandon gets coerced into marrying Queen/Princess Amentia.
Rearrangement: 4Kids opens the show with various scenes at Alfea involving those left behind, while Rainbow picks up off of the previous ep for a while (from Bloom and Sky rushing off to save Layla to Stella being washed downstream) before heading off for the scenes at Alfea.
Rewrite: Rainbow saves Riven's "If I was on the mission I'd be back by now" attitude for his convo with Musa. In the original, he actually thinks Saladin made a good choice by taking Brandon and Sky along while he's at the balcony with Flora.
Name change: Not really a name change, but Amentia is now queen in the 4Kids version instead of just princess, which makes no sense given the appearance of her parents in "My Boyfriend's Wedding".
Rescuing the Pixies
The mission reaches ShadowHaunt, and fights the Trix.
Rewrite: SnakeDarkar goes into the pixies' cage to badger them into revealing the location of the pixie village (we'll find out its significance later). Chatta says something about the tree it is located under. The original dialog has Chatta telling Lockette not to tell Darkar whatsoever, invoking the Nina Myers rule. (For the non-24 crowd, this means that Chatta is reasoning that LD wouldn't kill someone with info he needs, just as long as he doesn't get the info.) The dialog actually fits the scene better, as Chatta is looking straight at Lockette as she is speaking.
My Boyfriend's Wedding
The mission heads to Downland to crash Amentia's wedding.
Rewrite: As they are walking past crystals lighting up their path, the Winx talk about weddings (for example, Stella has hers all planned out). Originally, they're talking about the crystals.
