Head of the class; Top graduates named at reception last week; other awards to be announced Tuesday night

With graduation nearing, final ranks have been calculated. The top students of the senior class are Jennifer Rankin, valedictorian, Jennifer Fletcher, salutatorian and Josh Young, high-ranking boy.

Rankin, who has a weighted average of 104.88, will attend Texas Womanıs University in the fall, with a major in theater. She plans to be an actress after college.

"I've wanted to be valedictorian since I was in elementary school," Rankin said. "I'm glad Iıve accomplished my goal."

Fletcher, who has a weighted average of 104.5, will attend Rice University in the fall and major in chemical engineering.

"Being given an honor is one thing, but being the best person you can be is the greatest quality of all," Fletcher said. "Honesty triumphs."

Young will attend Austin College in Sherman in the fall and major in English with a pre-medical curriculum. His weighted average is 103.39.

"I'm proud of my status," Young said, "but maybe more so, Iım proud to be in such good company with the other top students at Haltom."

Other members of the top 10 are Shaye Brazil, Justin Caruthers, Michael Davis, Trupti Desai, Brooke Evans, Sara Holder and Angela Lewis.

Other senior awards, including departmental awards and various local scholarships, will be announced at the Senior Awards Assembly Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in theater. Proper graduation attire is required.

Baccalaureate will be at W.G. Thomas Coliseum May 25 at 3 p.m.

Commencement exercises will be at the Tarrant County Convention Center on June 1 at 4:30 p.m.
