1968 Mercury Park Lane Convertible
Here I am in the 1968 Mercury Park Lane Convertible

This 1968 Mercury Park Lane Convertible was originally purchased new by a Shriner at Orville Lowe’s Midtown Motors in Des Moines, Iowa. I guess that the Shriners bought 14 identical Mercury convertibles in 68 for use as parade cars.

We purchased it many years later at M&M Motors in Creston, IA. The blue convertible had been sitting in a barn for a number of years until it’s owner lost a good deal of money speculating on the soybean market and needed to generate some quick capital by liquidating some of his assets.

The Park Lane came very well equipped, it was loaded with options such as power windows, power brakes, power top and an AM 8 track. A 428 cubic inch 4 barrel engine resided under the hood linked to a C6 automatic transmission. Power was transmitted to the ground via a nine inch posi rear end.

Today it is in very good condition for an unrestored 1968 model year automobile. It is stored under a car cover in the shed awaiting future use.

Over the years I have owned several Mercurys. A 1960 Monterey 4 door 1966 Mercury Colony Park station wagon, a 1968 Mercury Park Lane convertible, a 1975 Marquis, a 1976 Bobcat station wagon, a 1978 Bobcat hatchback, a 1984 Capri GS and a 1990 Sable LS station wagon.
