Where We Found Our Stuff

Ardvark (this is the place we found all of our information)
This is the best site on the web for bodypiercing. It is informative and creative. The person who did it works with Gauntlet Piercing CO. based in SanFrancisco. They make the piericing equiptment
Piercing Mildred
This didn't have much information but it has a really neat-O game where you creat a person and pierce them.

The   Purpose   of   This   Web   Page

We made this page for our science project. We chose this topic becuase it is one very close to our hearts. Rachel's mother is a body piercer (as well as her older brother) and Camisha is no stranger to body piercings she has many piercings her self . We looked all over the WWW to find decent pages on body piercing under the category we were attempting to do but to no avail we only found pathetic excuses for useful information and if we didn't know better our selfs we would have believed it all. We found some useful information at Ardvark (the link will be included in the "Where we found our stuff" area) and at the Piercing Mildred area (link will also be included) the other places gave us incorrect information that could get your hurt if you got pierced and that was the page you found. So Mr. E....... here is our project!!!!!

The Report

In this report I am going to tell you not only the chosen topic but the basics of body piercing. From the basic types of jewlery to gauges to the topic.. Chemical effects on the body.

The Effects Body piercing is a safe thing. The only thing it can do is better the body if proporly cared for. One interesting thing we found was that there are certian areas of the body where if you apply presure (or stick with a needle) cause chemical changes in the body. These area's are called pressure points. There are litterally hundreds of these points all over your body. Some of those points are popular places to get pierced such as the eyebrow (which causes relaxation) and the ear in certian spots (that can cause anything from releif of headaches to weightloss). There is another effect that body piercing can have on the body, endorphin rushes. Endorphins are chemicals that your brain produces to give you energy and a naturel high. After the needle goes through in a piercing the body releases adrenelin which causes the endorphins to be released. Thats all we found on that. It was about as much as we allready knew but we found more exact information about it. Allthough we found things on other topics of bodypiercings here they are

The Jewlery There are alot of different kinds of jewlery out there for piercings here is a list of the different kinds with an explanation of their purpose:

Captive Bead Ring: This is the most used ring. It is the kind of ring you will most commonly find in belly button, eyebrows, and the specialty ear piercings.

Straight BarBell This is the ring that you will find in tounge piercings and some eyebrows. It is a bar with 2 beads at the end that screw on to either side.

Curved BarBell A normal barbell that is curved into a half circle.

Circular Bar Bell A bar bell that is curved into almost a full circle. The beads almost touch but are seperated slightly.

Labret (pronounced la-brea not la-bret) A barbell with one flat side used to go under the lip. Normally the bead on the ourside is a spike or a ball.

Plug A "O" shaped cylander used to streach out piercings.

Post Also known as a stud. It's the ring you see in ears. The ball with a post with a clasp in the back.

Nostril Screw The alternative to studs in the nose. It's like a post with a screw backing to hold it in place.

That is all of the jewlery now for the........

Gauges A gauge in piercing is the size of the ring. They come in sizes from .032 inches to .460 inches. That may seem small but concider a post earing that is the smallest gauge and the largest gauge is almost the length of one!

My class and other people have been here times.
