Moses and Mother

This second version of this scene shows Moses' mother Jochebed, accompnied by her daughter Miriam, just after she places Moses into the Nile. Both women reach out to Moses in anguish as they release him into the river's current, and he too reaches out to them as he floats away. Thus begins one of the Bible's greatest stories, the story of Israel's exodus from slavery in Egypt.(Exodus 2:1-4)
