self-portrait I drew on the computer (you can tell, ne?)

The first anime I ever watched was, of course, Sailormoon (that's the way it is with most people, either Sailormoon or Pokemon or DBZ).  Then I discovered that a local video store had a HUGE section on anime, so I checked out some stuff there.  The next one I saw was Ranma 1/2, and the first subtitled thing I saw was Tenchi Muyo.  After that I saw lots more stuff, and here is where I'm going to review them.
When I first saw Ranma, I thought it was the greatest thing I'd ever seen (keep in mind, all I'd seen of anime before that was the DiC dub of SM).  But then, part of the reason I liked it was just because it was anime.  I didn't really care if it sucked or not.  Now, I don't think Ranma sucks, but that it's not as good as some other stuff.  The other Rumiko Takahashi things I've seen are Maison Ikkoku and Urusei Yatsura, and those I thought sucked.  But then, I haven't seen very much of either, maybe they get better later.  In fact, I don't really know what I like about Ranma.  The characters are semi-boring, the plot..um, what plot?  I guess it's the humor, that's what I like about it.
I guess that after Tenchi (which I didn't like), the next thing I saw was Evangelion.  And I loved it!  The characters are all so complex, and they've had to go through so much because of the Second Impact and all that stuff.  The ending to the TV series was super-lame, but I've seen the End movie and it was so much better.  And you know how there's plot-driven and character-driven stories?  This is both, but the ending to the TV series just answers all of the characters' problems, not the plot things, if you know what I mean.
Then I saw Slayers.  It was good, very funny too.  And it had Hayashibara Megumi and Midorikawa Hikaru both as main characters, and they're two of my favorite seiyuu, so... Oh, and the plot did drag along sometimes (I like it better when every episode has some important thing happening in it that contributes to the ending of the series).  But the characters were cute, and the animation was good too.  I especially liked the music.  And I like Lina, she's cool, and Zelgadis is cool too.  I _hate_ Naga though, she's soooo annoying and I hope her implants burst (what do you mean, what implants?  They're so obvious!)
After that I saw Aa Megami-sama.  It was kind of cute, but the only character I really liked was Skuld.  That's why I only watched a few of the OVAs.  And shortly thereafter I saw Kimagure Orange Road.  I like Madoka and Kyosuke, but Hikaru really gets on my nerves.  And some of the OVAs were really good, like the one where they went skiing and where Hikaru got kidnapped in Hawaii (and Madoka tried to speak English, that was funny).  Oh, but the movie where he dumped Hikaru just sucked.
That was when I found out that there was an anime club in my city that has screenings occasionally.  That's where I saw Card Captor Sakura, Kodomo no Omocha, and those other obscure things.  Card Captor Sakura was very cute, and I like Sakura and Tomoyo.  Kodomo no Omocha was just insane, with that Sana girl running around and all the really weird characters.  But it's funny too.  I also saw some stuff that I didn't really like, such as City Hunter, Maze, and Lost Universe.  Oh, and they show SMS there too!  Yay, yay, yay.
Another anime that I like is Shoujo Kakumei Utena.  It's cool, I like the music and the animation.  The concept is neat too, but the plot could possibly get repetitive later on because every episode is a duel (almost every episode).  I just wish that Software Sculptors or whoever is translating that would do more episodes.  I wanna see the Black Duelists, because I've heard so much about them and they sound cool.  The characters are cool in this one too, I just don't like Nanami (god what a bitch), Wakaba (how annoying.  Utena-sama, Utena-sama, is that all she knows how to say?), Saionji (jerk.  If he were real I would have kicked his miserable butt during the first episode), and Touga (also a jerk, and neither he nor Saionji are really cute, they look like women who have gotten bad plastic surgery).  But I like Utena, she kind of reminds me of Haruka (but she's lots cooler).  Anshi is a bit too passive, and I would like Miki if he were shown more.  Juri is cool too, I think she and Miki would make a really cute couple if she weren't so obsessed with that brat Shiori.  Anyway, I just like this anime, it's great.
The story of how I got into Pokemon is kind of weird.  See, my mom and I were at the local anime store, and we overheard someone saying Pokemon.  And we thought it was such a cool word (it's so fun to say: Pokemon, Pokemon, Pokemon!), that for some odd reason we decided to rent a tape of it and see what the big deal was.  We did, and now both of us really like it (and she's 53, just goes to show you that you're never too old for anime).  I also got the game, it's fun and it's really addictive.  Frustrating though, especially my no-talent Psyduck whom I can't even get to level 25 because it only knows one attack (I sound like Misty...scary).  Anyway, I like the Pokemon, they're extremely kawaii.  Especially Pikachu!  Hehe, that little thing is so cute and I like its voice.  Oh, and I'm obsessed with Team Rocket, so coincidentially I don't like Ash a whole lot.  Annoying voice, what is it with these females playing male parts in dubbed anime nowadays?  Misty's cool, though, but her sisters remind me of the Scouts (not the senshi, their badly-dubbed counterparts).  As for Brock...he's cute!  Oh, and I also like Dratini, Abra, Kadabra, and any of the three that you first have in the game (Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle...in case you're wondering, I picked Bulbasaur in the game because Oak suggested it).  My cousin is obsessed with it too, and we want to get one of those link cables so we can trade and battle.
Another one that I've seen is Devil Hunter Yohko.  I didn't like it, it was obviously geared towards males even though it has a female hero.  I mean, come on.  That dork kid almost raping Yohko, her nude transformation, and all the freaking fanservice shots were gross.  Megami Paradise is kinda like that, I mean, the goddesses wear hardly more than underwear.  And in that one episode where the Dark Goddesses steal Lilith and try to destroy the Astrostar, there must be about 50 shots of Lilith flying around naked.  Oh, and when the Dark Goddess throws Lilith over her shoulder there's a very icky fanservice shot. *shudder* I think I'd like it if there wasn't so much nudity and the girls didn't all wear outfits that made them look like prostitutes.
I've also seen a couple of anime movies.  Kiki's Delivery Service was the first one I saw, subtitled, because I usually like to watch the subs before the dubs just so I know how things are supposed to be.  Kiki's is a cute movie, although the plot is slow.  The only real exciting part happens at the end when her friend is on the aircraft thing and she has to save him.  But it's cute, I liked Kiki, she was the stereotypical shoujo anime girl but I liked her anyway.
The other one I saw was Barefoot Gen.  It's about World War II and the bombing of Hiroshima, only from the perspective of Gen, a little Japanese kid.  And wow, is this thing gory.  People with their skin melting off and their eyes falling out (is that what really happens when you're exposed to that much radiation?), and corpses, worms, and death and destruction everywhere.  Lots and lots of people die, and practically the whole city gets destroyed.  During the part after the bomb, I was watching it and I'm like "If hell exists, that's what it looks like."  It was really sad, especially since there were all these little kids in the movie and they were suffering too.  I think everyone should see this, especially people in the military, or war pilots, or nuclear physicists (like my dad), or any future presidents or secretaries-of-state.  Then they'd realize that nuclear bombs are evil, evil, evil and they will do absolutely no good for society if they're kept.
Anyway, so that's most of the anime I've seen (well, the anime I've seen that's worth talking about), and my reviews of them.
