Passage to Dawn

Drizzt Do'Urden is a Drow. Drow are dark elves that live in subterranean caverns deep beneath the surface in the Underdark of Forgotten Realms. Drizzt doesn't. That is why he is a renegade. That, and the fact that he renounced the Drow's Spider-Queen Lloth, ruined his family and half-destroyed Menzoberranzan (The city of the Drow). Don't think this was easy. It took him 6 books.

Drizzt first appears in The Crystal Shard by R.A. Salvatore. He was originally supposed to be Wulfgar's Sidekick. After taking over as the star of The Crystal Shard, Drizzt went on to have two more books written about him, completing the Icewind Dale Trilogy. After this he had a prequel trilogy, the Dark Elf Trilogy, written about stuff he did before the stuff he did in the Icewind Dale Trilogy. After this Salvatore went on to write some more books about surprise! Drizzt again. Pretty good for a sidekick don't you think; especially when Wulfgar gets (ahem) bumped off in one of the books about Drizzt and his family relations.

Drizzt has made many friends in his lifetime. They include Catti-Brie, Wulfgar, Bruenor Battlehammer, Regis, Guenhwyver and more. He has also made many enemies, but don't worry about them, most of them are no longer around to bother him. I also don't have time to do a list of all the deceased trolls, goblins, giants etc that felt the sting of Drizzt's deadly scimitars. (Oh, his friends helped too, I think Wulfgar killed a goblin once.) Actually, someone who is still around is the mysterious Jarlaxle. A drow mercenary in deadly Menzoberranzan, no one really ever knows what Jarlaxle is up to. Is he good or is he evil? Is he even a drow? For further commentary go to Shiver's Jarlaxle page.
