 
Mud, Fire, Riots, and Rape...
Jimi wasn't there, niether was anyone with even a hint of the talent of Hendrix. When an average band like the Red Hot Chili Peppers headline the biggest concert in the world, you know society has gone to hell... Instead of rebels with a cause, this was 275,000 rebels without a clue. Revisiting Woodstock in the 90's is a ridiculous idea to begin with. What are these guys protesting anyway? Only 4 HBO channels? Only a 56K modem? Only 25 designer hallucinogens to choose from? They should be protesting the fact that rock music is in the toilet. Unlike the 60's generation, this is a culture of conformists, wannabe's and immature spoiled brats. They all dress the same. And we're talking high dollar dress. So much for shunning material excess... They are all pierced the same. They all speak the same p.c. language, terrified of the backlash and the peer pressure that this Orwellian, MTV driven culture has spawned. One of the few positives to come out of the sixties was that a few brave souls stood up and showed us that it was alright to be different. Not different for different's sake; but different because that's who you are. It takes an uncommon bravery to be real. The reason 60's legends like Hendrix, Pete Townshend, Lennon, Marc Bolan, and Morrison are still so revered today is because they had the guts to be themselves. They were real, no matter who liked it or disliked it. It was the posers and the hangers on (who are mirror imaged in todays youth) who ruined what little success the 60's generation had in trying to live out this "dream" that successive generations of youth have held on to a tattered remnant of. There are very few revolutionaries in this generation, because political correctness has made everyone afraid to think. And if young people are thinking, fear of the liberal thought police keeps their mouths shut tight; so that nobody ever knows it. So why does a revisiting of a supposed utopian period of peace and love end up in flames, riots, mayhem, rape (4 reported), and vandalism?? It is because togetherness is a myth. There is not now, or ever will there be more than fleeting moments of peace while sin exists in the human heart. This is why every utopian dream and every new age myth is just that: dreams and myths. The problem is sin. Original sin. The unregenerate, unredeemed human heart is incapable of producing lasting peace. When the natural, fleshly inclination is toward selfishness, and thoughts are us-ward instead of God-ward, things like the riots at Woodstock, and the murders in Atlanta, and the high school slaughter in Littleton, CO , and a country in love with a lying, deceptive, but good-looking President are perfectly understandable. There is none righteous, no not one... The heart is desperately wicked and decietful above all things... So the Scripture has concluded all under sin.... Galatians 3:22 Sin and evil abound because we are sinners. "There will be no peace, the war won't cease, until He returns.. -Bob Dylan- Jesus told us to expect things like this to happen. In 2 Timothy 3:1-4 the Bible says: "But know this, in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God... If ever you could look at a generation and say that in this day the scripture is fulfilled, it would be this generation. And I'm not just talking about the hedonistic masses at Woodstock; but about mothers, and fathers, and grandparents, and children. People today seethe with hatred for christianity. Scientists use scientific theory to legitimate every form medical evil. Crackhead mothers abandon their babies. Children murder their parents. Parents murder their kids. Some parents abuse their kids mentally; by neglecting them, and refusing to spend time with them; leaving them with no feelings of self worth. This is a generation without natural affection. Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God... Instead of a summer spent trying to recapture some bogus lost ideal, let it be a summer of trying to grasp something real. And God is real... And if you're not a christian, you are looking at the prospect of an eternity in much more dire misery than this present time in this sinful world. There is no second chance; no Karmaic wheel, no astral travel. Just the prospect of an eternity without the presence of God. Today the offer of His mercy stands. Repent and believe the Gospel. The only thing we contribute to our salvation is our sin. It is God's free gift. Take it today.... -Danny Thweatt-Ed.-
