Dear Vanessa Marcil and producers and writers of GH,
Lately it has been rumored that Vanessa Marcil is going to be
leaving General Hospital in August 1997, after her contract is up. Although
we do not know whether there is any truth to this or not, we are greatly
hoping that there isn't.
Many of us have been watching GH since the character, Brenda, was
introduced to Port-Charles. We are amazed at how well Vanessa has made this
character come alive. She has made Brenda a "real" person, and one of the
most fiery, interesting characters we've seen for a while. We have watched
Brenda mature as a character and also Vanessa as an actor, and have grown
to love them. Now we are being told that an actor, that has been in front
burner story lines since she started, is leaving. Especially now of all
times, as many viewers have been caught up in the love triangle between
Sonny/Jax/ Brenda (and now Miranda). It is the main reason many people
watch the show. All viewers are hoping it will come to an end soon, but not
without Brenda, because it would be meaningless then. If Vanessa does leave
in August no matter who we are rooting for (S&B or J&B) we will all be
disappointed and many viewers will lose interest.
Basically what we are trying to say is that we love Vanessa and
don't want her to leave, EVER! But, we know that this is not likely.
However, we'd love for her to remain on the show for as long as possible.
August is too soon! Just recently we have lost so many favourite
characters; Mary-Mae Ward, Steve Hardy, Robin Scorpio, Lois Ashton, Stone
Cates, and now with the pregnancy of Genie Frances (congratulations
Genie!:-), we may also lose Laura Spencer. Losing Vanessa will mean that we
lose yet another enchanting story line, and more of the best acting ever
seen.
We understand that it is entirely up to Vanessa whether she leaves
or not, and if she does chose to, we wish her the best of luck in a movie
career or whatever else she might chose to pursue. It will still break our
hearts to see her leave GH, and we hope that seeing all the names on this
will help convince her to stay at least a little longer. If not, we hope it
will at least let her know we love her acting as Brenda Barrett, and can't
picture any one else playing the part nearly as convincingly as she does.
Sincerely,
Send your name to Kirsten at mitchel@ibl.bm to sign the Vanessa Marcil Petition
