KK Movie Reviews

Cheer Fever

Cheer Fever has started filming now in San Francisco and is scheduled to be released sometime in 2000. The movie is about a cheerleader going through cheerleader camp and overcoming adverseries to become the best. It has Gabrielle Union in it from "She's All That" and "10 Things I Hate About You". It has been described as the "Rocky" for cheerleading. Hey, I got a great name for the lead character, how about "Ali"?

Karate Kid-10 out of 10-
What can you say about KKI? If your at this page right now, you know how awesome this movie is. Johny, Daniel, and Ali all are played so well. No other movie can strike up the kind of emotions in me that KKI can. My favorite part is when Daniel is riding his bike to school and "Cruel Summer" is playing in the background. The sequence between riding his bike to school to where he leaves the field screaming "this school sucks" is the best sequence in the movie. Before this movie came out, the New York Times reviewed it and totally slammed it. They said it was a cheesy "Rocky" rip-off that was cartoonish and unrealistic. Another thing that I like is all the high school scenes and the interaction with people at school, it's what the sequels were missing. Even though this movie is over two hours long, I wish it was longer and even went more in depth about the characters.

Karate Kid II-4 out of 10-
What can you say about this one? Face it there was no real way to make a good sequel to the first KK, it was perfect. The only reason these sequels were made was for $$$. The first sequel has to be the worst, in the first 5 minutes they quickly tear apart and destroy everything that the first movie spent such a long time to develop. They ship Myagi and Daniel over to Okinawa and set up some stupid predictament similar to the first movie, set him up with a chick like in the first movie, and make him defend himself at the end in the first movie, but this movie didn't seem to have the emotional impact on me that the first one did. The only salvation for it: "The Glory of Love" by Peter Cetera was in it.

Karate Kid III--2 out of 10-
Oh my! By now I bet Pat Morita and Ralph are kicking themselves in there own butts for signing to do the two sequels! What a stupid, boring, ridiculous movie! I'm just lost with this one boys, I meant it just seems so dumb. They make the Kobra Kai leader look like a sap. Bad, bad, bad!

Next Karate Kid--0 out of 10-
...and when you think you saw the worst, then came the Next Karate Kid! The chick in the movie is a terrible actor, the plot is just dumb as piss, let me get this straight; there is a twisted militia club at the high school or something? Then the parts they rip off of the first KK, like instead of painting fences to develop blocking skills, Myagi makes her babysit kids and she develops the skill of blocking by dodging and blocking little Nerf balls! Oh Joy! I think this was the nail in the coffin for the Karate Kid series until I've devised the plot for Karate Kid 5.....

The Power Within--5 out of 10-
This movie is a total Karate Kid rip-off, direct to videocassette movie done in 1995. Once again William Zabka is the bad guy. I somehow pictured Zabka to be like 40 by now, but he instead is in his late 20's, is built about the same, and has long reddish-brown hair and a BIG nose. It's too bad that they not only give his character no personality but also ridiculously cheesy dialogue (at least they gave him a hot car and a big-breasted babe). Basically a kid, just like Danielson, works at Universal Studios and meets a girl at a nearby food stand, just like Ali. He gets a ring from a old Chinese dude, just like Mr. Miyagi, and the ring makes him Karate King. Zabka has his own ring and wants both rings so he can be the most powerfull dude in the world. There's a beach scene like Karate Kid, there are punk people messing with his car at the beach just like in Karate Kid, there is a horridly annoying (really, REALLY!!! annoying) mom in the movie that can't act one bit just like in Karate Kid. The boy goes to a dance with the girl like in Karate Kid, he gets beat up at school by some bully-dude at school just like in Karate Kid, and at the end he defeats Zabka. The movie is highlighted by tons of horribly choreographed fight scenes (the kicks and punches done are even fakier that the WWF or WCW). The logo on the cover is just like the Karate Kid's logo. It is cool to see that people are becoming interested in making a similar movie to the Karate Kid, but I'd like to see some originality and a better plot. All you B-grade movie dudes, let me write your next Karate Kid rip-off!

Karate Kid 5-a new beginning!-- OK, we have Karate Kid in high school, Karate Kid in his post-high school years, Karate chick, there is only one place yet to go, have a Karate Kid that is in grade school! Have the kid be between 8 and 10 years old, like the kid from Home Alone 3 or something. Make it serious yet fun, not stupid like those 3 ninjas movies or anything. I seriously think it would work, the younger kids would go see it. Some of my favorite movies of all time involve kids at this age, like Stand By Me and the Goonies. I promise every KK fan out there that when I get rich I'm going to make it!
