Thank you for your interest in the Scriptio Canada Writing Competition. Scriptio Canada , a NONPROFIT Organization, hopes to encourage and support new talent across all the provinces of Canada by holding this competition. The enclosed guidelines and information about categories should help you in submitting yor work for the competition and also you a better idea of what is required.

CANADIAN GUIDELINE INFORMATION

All entry's in the Canadian writing competition MUST include and use our original application/entry form. To ensure that an artist work has been legitimately submitted to us of their own free will. There are NO EXCEPTIONIS to this rule! This not only protects said writer from copyright infringement, but assures that no other individual may be submitting the same work, plagiarism lines from said original work, or conspiriing to enter a piece of work taht they have not completed in their won hand or with original creators permission.

Joint works are acceptable, but must be submitted by both writers, with each party signing and authorizing the entry form. Only one fee may be paid for a work that is of two authors and considered by both parties in agreement that it is, and will be classified as a Co-Written project.

ANY Writing submissions arriving without the proper entry form and information I.E. Just a Surname and First Name on Application with no address, city, province, with just a phone number- will not be returned or accepted for judging in the competition on the same grounds stated above. Please have your address, city, province and postal code on the title page of your submission. If you believe that your work is being fraudulently submitted to the Scriptio Canada Competitions, please contact us immediately with any and all pertinent information relating to your work.

Poetry may be submitted from a deceased relatives collection, as long as you have the right of attorney, copyright, or are executive in control of the estate and all rights have passed to you concerning the work. On that form, you may be listed as the copyright holder for the piece, but you must list the originator.

Work may be submitted, typewritten only, single or double spaced as long as the material is readable and copy is clean. All work submitted that is unreadable will not be judged or returned. The name of the piece, your name, and home phone number should be an easily readable header on your entry.

All entry's must be numbered in the lower center of work. Please mail an SASE (self addressed stamped envelope) large enough to contain your work should you wish it returned. All entry's without SASE'S will be destroyed at the end of the contest. Should you wish to verify that we have indeed received your entry you may mail your work registered mail, or send an address ready, pre-posted postcard that we will return when your submission is tallied as received in Scriptio Canada’s offices. No other confirmations will be given. Faxes or any other form of contact, such as email will not be replied to concerning judging or general information given concerning work.

You may submit poetry previosly published in a collection as long as you are the holder of the copyright and they have reverted back to you by the conest end by at least April/ May 1997. Proof of copyright MUST be submitted with work. All works indicated previously published WITHOUT copyright proof will not be returned or accepted for judging in the competition on the same grounds stated above, while proof of copyright forms and registration may vary from nationa to nation, we will accept whatever legal document your nation of origin deems your legal copyright paperwork as long as you have it notarized .

Work is NOT accepted on diskette nor will we accept any electronic submissions. Entry Fees are $15.00 Canadian Dollars payable in personal check, money order, or Canadian Postal Money Order. Any Entry sent without fee will be destroyed or returned if SASE is provided. We will NOT hold entry's for payment before judging. Payment MUST accompany submissions. Two months after contest end final judging will commence and winners will be contacted.

CATEGORIES:
POETRY
"Poetry is something more philosopic and of grave import than History, since it's statements are of the nature of universals, whereas those of History are singulars." ARTISTOTLE, POETICS.

Must submit a minimum of 2 poems and no more than 15 poems for entry free of $15.00 Canadian Dollars.

Poetry may be submitted froma deceased relatives collection, as long as you have the right of attorney, copyright, or are executive in control of the estate and all rights ahve passed to you concerning the work. On that form, you may be listed as the copyright holder for the piece, but you must list the originator.

Poetry may be submitted, typewritten only, single or doble spaced as long as the material is readable and copy is clean. We are accepting a minimum of two works per entry, with a maximum of 15 total. If you wish to contribute more than 15 pieces, you must submit these pieces under a new separate entry form with a new fee.

There is no length limit to the lines in the poems submitted. There is no restrictions on the subject matter.General, Erotic, Historical, are all permitted in addition to any other forms of poetry existing as well as special interest poetry.

You may submit poetry previously publilshed in a collection as long as you are the North American holder of the copyright and they have reverted back to you, or shall revert to you by the contest end by at least April 30 - May 30, 1997.

SHORT STORY & NOVELLA

Must submit one story any genre sci-fi, romance, erotica, new age, mystery, fiction, non-fiction again all genre. 10,000 words and up maximum of 30,000 words for novella. Short Story: A minimum of 1000 words a maximum of 7,500 words or more. Double spaced, professional manuscript format. If you have an extended novella that you would like to submit, please email our offices at : scriptio_canada@rocketmail.com with word count and twenty five word paragraph on theme.

FICTION

Any genre I.E. Western, Sci-Fi, Mystery, Romance, Adventure, Horror, Women Issues (The Color Purple), Men's Issues (Iron John), New Age (Celestine Prophecy) etc. A minimum of 55,000 words to a maximum of 275,000 words plus.

NON FICTION

All genre encouraged from New Age (Lynn Andrews), to Self-Help, How-To, Astrology, Zodiac Based Materials, I-Ching, Magic, Visualization, Crystals, Self-Acceptance, Humouresque, Cook Books, etc. 55,000 words to 175,000 plus or no more than 450 to 500 pages.

SCREENPLAYS

Movies of All Genre: Accepting Adaptations, Braveheart, JFK, Blade Runner From Romance, Action, Mystery, Horror, Etc. Page Limit is 140 pages.

We will only accept screenplays that are three hole punched, bound with a clean cover, no see through with the authors name in the lower right hand corner, address, and phone number. Title of Screenplay, author, and genre must be centered in the middle of the cover page with author information.

If screenplay is absed upon an existing medium, I.E. Historical Event, Book, Author must submit proof that author has the rights and that screenplay based upon existing medium is either public domain, or has rights information with official entry form. Winning Screenplays will be submitted to production companies for consideration and we must have proof that subject matter is either public domain or author is also copyright holder. No Exceptions. For Screenplays Based Upon Existing Medium. 140 page length is not applicable. For Animation Scripts, please follow appropriate animation format.

If writer is submitting "Children's Educational Plays" we are looking at material in the vein of: Alice Through The Looking Glass, or Little Women.

No Plays accepted more than 4 acts. Writer/Submitter must have copyright to play. If play has been produced previously, writer must submit that information as well with entry. Writer must also submit playbill and review information (one review) for produced plays. If Playright has taped performance , we will also accept video in addition to printed copy of play, but not instead of.
