THE NEWS PERFORMANCES Grammy Awards President Michael Greene mentions Prince submitted 1999-09-29 14:22:13 by LoveMenWomenPeace (lmwpusa@hotmail.com)

In an article by Michael Greene, President/CEO of the Recording Academy, which operates and owns the Grammy Awards, mentions Prince in an article about media influence on culture. In the article the President says that Prince's Song "Darling Nikki" was the spark for the creation of the PMRC, that later led to warning stickers being placed on albums with explicit lyrics.

Here is the segment of the article that mentions Prince.

"...Tipper Gore caught her 11-year-old daughter listening to Prince's "Darling Nikki" from Purple Rain and immediately launched the Parent's Music Resource Center, a shameless crusade to sanitize music." with their nihilist rants, were the latest threat to the well-being of our kids. This new crop of rabble rousers chronicled the decay of the British and American inner cities and gave a voice to a generation of kids unmotivated because of a lack of opportunity. Soon after, Tipper Gore caught her 11-year-old daughter listening to Prince's "Darling Nikki" from Purple Rain and immediately launched the Parent's Music Resource Center, a shameless crusade to sanitize music. Eventually the PMRC was successful in stickering CDs, a practice which now is used by some retailers to identify recordings to keep off their shelves, and by kids as an "In your face" seal of parental disapproval -- Gotta buy it!"

According to a friend of mine that works at Arista records in NYC, the UK based remix/production duo, Basement Jaxx, has been hired to do the dance remixes of "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold". He also said that "Rave" is definitely the #1 holiday priority at Arista."Nothing Compares 2 U" selected as #2 love song of all time submitted 1999-10-06 03:33:12 by Octavius (opinkard@erols.com)

On the October 5th edition of VH1's "The List", the song Nothing Compares 2 U was voted the #2 love song of all time. Clearly, this song would have been voted #1 had James Brown not been one of the celebrity panelists. He offered his own song "Try Me" as his selection for the top love song of all time. The audience voted for his song just because he was there, I'm sure. It seems like "The List" is Prince-friendly.Prince donation: "The Artist's Emergency Assistance Fund" submitted 1999-10-05 13:59:51 by Anonymous

As reported in the Pioneer Press:

The Artist Formerly Known as Prince has donated $100,000 to the Rhythm & Blues Foundation. The gift -- initially announced in February at the organization's 10th annual Pioneer Awards -- will henceforth be known as ``The Artist's Emergency Assistance Fund'' and provide medical and other emergency aid.

I just wanted to let everyone know that the reduced prices at 1-800 New Funk Online are in effect as of 10:30 PM Eastern time, which is when I placed my order. You've gotta love those $10 NPG hockey jerseys!:-) "TGRES" selling well in Cleveland - #5 submitted 1999-10-04 19:25:49 by CAMILLEICE (camilleice@aol.com)

Today here in Cleveland in a Local CAMELOT in one of our malls i was stroolin through and much to my suprise I noticed "THE GREATEST ROMANCE EVER SOLD" single out a day early! But That wasnt the half of it! As you all know most large record stores have a top selling singles section! Well in the top ten in the number 5# spot out of all the singles was "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold" It was number 5# Which was totaly cool to me and i thought you all would want to know! The whole thing was set up very nicely it had all the cds in a big square shape around a big number 5# and then it had the tape version of the single around the sides! Hopefully it will get even higher once its released and heard on the radio? VH1's "The List" picks "When Doves Cry" as #1 song submitted 1999-10-04 17:30:17 by AEAB2000 (AEAB2000@aol.com)

Well I don't know if this is news but I thought it was pretty cool. I just finished watching VH1's "The List" I think it was thier first show but maybe not, anyway, the catagory for tonight was best song (ever) and the panel consisted of French? (that wierd guy from 3rd rock) Melissa Etheridge (SP?) Kathy ? (sister act) and some guy I never heard of and of course the audience. The panel got to choose thier top 3, then they eliminated some, and then there were 6, and the audience got to pick the top three,.......3) Aretha Franklin- Respect, 2) Johnny B Good - Chuck Berry ..............1) When Doves Cry - Prince He got Best song of all time!!! Another report on "TGRES" single packaging submitted 1999-10-04 15:26:10 by russel.bailey

Released in UK on 4th. October as promised. Design / photo by Parke. The packaging is up to the usual recent standard. Whereas the oversized 1999 - The Master remixes cover was designed to ensure it didn't fit in your run of CDs, this one (cardboard packaging - you don't even get plastic for your investment of one penny short of five pounds sterling!) is designed so the CD falls out of the bottom of the slip case if you stand it up.

Presumably 1800 NEWFUNK will retail a limited edition smarter version in 3 month's time with the aperture correctly positioned.

Oh - yeah - the trax are quite nice on first listen :-)
