NOTE: Please don't reprint this pattern without my permission. Happy Holidays! ssg

MATERIALS:
Size #30 thread in green (maybe 20 yards)
Aluminum Hook #10 (Boye)
Beading Needle
360-400 multi-color beads, size #11
One Round Glass bead (4mm) for top of tree

NOTES:
Thread on all the little beads before beg work.
Ch 2 at beg of round counts as 1st hdc

  • You may prefer a fuller or a leaner tree than the one I made. If so, modify beginning with Rnd 8 to the end. For a fuller one tree: make only one st between bead loops. For a leaner one: increase the number of stitches between each bead loop.
DIRECTIONS:
Ch 4. Sl st to beginning chain to form a loop.

Rnd 1: Ch 2 ,Make 11 hdc in ring. Sl st to join (12 hdc)

Rnd 2: (Ch 1. Push up 10 beads close to hook. Fold them into a loop. Work ch 1 to hold. Make a hdc in next st in rnd 1.) 12 times. Sl st to join.

Rnd 3: Ch 2. Make hdc in each ch-1 stitch around. Sl st to join.

Rnd 4: Ch 2. Make hdc in each hdc around. Sl st to join.

Rnd 5: (Ch 1. Push up 10 beads close to hook. Fold them into a loop. Work ch 1 to hold. Make a hdc in each of next 2 sts.) 12 times. Sl st to join.

Rnd 6: Ch 2. Make hdc in each ch-1 stitch around. Sl st to join.

Rnd 7: Ch 3 (Counts as dc). *Make a dc across next 2 sts (a decrease made). Make a dc in next st. Repeat from * around.

Rnd 8: *Ch 1. push up 10 beads. Fold them into a loop. Work ch 1 to hold. Make a hdc in each of next 3 sts. Repeat from * around. Sl st to join. (When I made this, I got six loops)

Rnd 9: Ch 2. *Make a hdc in each st to the st between the beaded loops on rnd 8. Ch 1. Push up 10 beads. Work ch 1 to hold. Repeat from * around. Sl st to join. (6 loops)

Rnd 10: Ch 3. *Make a dc across next 2 sts (a decrease made) Dc in next st. Repeat from * until you only have one stitch left. Pull tightly to close. Fasten Off, leaving about 10 inches of thread.

String the larger bead (for top of tree) through the tail. Insert hook in top of tree and pull through a loop. Push bead up close to hook and work a ch-1 around it to hold. Make a hdc into the top of the tree on either side of the bead to hold it in place.

To Make a loop for the tree hanger: Ch 5. Sl st loop into place at top of tree. Fasten off.

Since the beads add weight to this little tree, it will stand upright. If you want turn it into an hanging ornament, make a loop out of wire or thread for the top.

I used #30 thread and small beads. However, I don't know why you couldn't use larger thread and beads. You could even use yarn and pony beads. Ssg December 1997
