NOTES FOR DEACON JAMES TROWBRIDGE

James Trowbridge married 1rst Lydia Alsop, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Preston) Alsop.

James married 2nd Esther Howe, daughter of Ephraim and Ann ( ? ) Howe. They were admitted members Stratford Congregational Church, April 8, 1694.

James married 3rd Mary Belden, daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth (Foote) Belden. There is no date of death on Mary, but she was living in Wilton, CT as late as 1737.

James learned the trade of "cord-wainer", or shoemaker, in his native town and followed it in New Haven and also in Stratford where he removed in Sept 1693. In Stratford he was chosen sealer of leather at town meetings held in 1698-1702. He lived on Long Hill. In 1712 he removed to Norwalk, CT, purchasing a large farm on Chestnut Hill, in parish of Wilton. He there passed remainder of life engaged in farming. He was probably one of three original members of Wilton Congregational Church and was appointed a committee to make arrangements for the settlement of Rev. Mr. Sturgeon. He was appointed a Deacon of church, an office which he filled until his death. In the town of Norwalk he served as fence viewer in 1717, grand juror 1719, town collector in 1721.
