BACK HOME:

Ash (for Mom)

We hallow ground
and inter memories of battlefield
blood, honor, and youthful
extinction
Better to burn remains
as you desired
to cast from a high bluff
by the sea
to commingle with a
reminiscense one might have
looking east at rebirth
or west with the
glow of our
ancestors.

Corner of San Jacinto

Come stand at the second floor
window and peer south and down

at the Metro bus stop with its
freeway shadowed backdrop where

vagrnts sleep curled and shirtless

rush hour pounding above...
you have 50 minutes to put this view

to paper, daily, for 1 credit
and your GED.
