Modern Vampires: The Vampyre

The vampyre (spelled with a y) is a real life vampire somewhat related to the immortal vampires we know about but not with the same power of eternal life. Vampyres claim to have unique powers, empathy and magick being among the strongest. Each vampyre is their own individual with their own unique powers. There are several types of vampyres which are listed below.

Disclaimer:

Some vampyres drink blood, others do not. Some vampyres say that this is the only way to determine a real vampyre. I personally do not care who is a real vampyre and who is not. LARP/RPG vampires are not typically thought of as being real vampyres but there are always exceptions to the rules. If someone who plays VtM incorporates the vampyre lifestyle into their life they may choos to consider themselves a vampyre. These web pages are created for educational purposes from information I have gathered on the subject and they were not created to determine who is and who is not a vampyre.

Immortal Vampyres:

There are people who claim to be immortal vampyres having lived for hundreds of years. There is no proof to substanciate these claims. Nobody who claims to be this particular type of vampyre has ever been able to show enough proof to substanciate their existance. If there ever is a substanciated claim it will be listed in the credible newspapers rather than just the tabloids.

Vampyres By Birth:

These are the vampryes that claim to have been born with a craving to drink blood. They are supplied by donors who are willing to fulfill the vampyre's needs. This is usually done by making a small surface wound with a razor or by taking the blood through a hypodermic needle. This practice normally does not produce any scars. Sometimes this type of vampyre can trace their vampyrism through several of their ancestors. At first, they may not know or understand why they have so many differences from the average person. They may also become influenced into thinking that their cravings are not normal and wrong.

Viral Vampyres:

These are people who claim to be "turned" into vampyres by a virus that is passed through bodily fluids. The transmission is usually deliberate and ritualistic. It is said that the fledgling usually has a near-death experience before gaining the heightened vampyric senses. Some Common Vampiric Senses

Spirit-Influenced Vampyres:

These are humans who claim to have exchanged partial control of their body with a spirit/demon for heightened vampyric senses. The spirit/demon while in control of the person's body may perform evil acts that can leave the human with a sense of remorse.

Psychic Vampyres:

Some vampyres claim to use their mind and body energies to "feed" from and manipulate the "life-force" of those around them. This often includes controlling humans and other non supernatural beings, reading minds, and generally getting what they want. Many vampyres claim they can do these things, so they could all be classed as psy-vamps. However, unlike the other forms of vampyres few psy-vamps actually drink blood and the heightened vampiric senses do not occur. Some psy-vamps can manipulate situations to bring on an emotional high so that they will have something to feed from. They may also have the ablility to choose which type of energy they take. A psy-vamp may leave people around him feeling drained until he learns to control his/her feeding habits. It is said that sometimes a psychic can tell if a person is a psy-vamp.

White Wolf Vampires (LARP/RPG):

These are people who play vampire characters in a role-playing game called Vampire:The Masquerade (VtM) published by White Wolf. This game is very similar to the more commonly known game Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. There are books of rules that are used to create a vampire character and to act out various scenerios presented by the GM (Game Master). Another more commonly used term for the GM is a Storyteller (updated after actually participating in games for many years now). Since this is acting rather than a lifestyle, the people who play this game are not technically considered to be "real" vampyres (unless they also incorporate the aspects of being a vampyre into their everyday lifestyle). If you go to a site that says, "No RPG or LARP here only Real Vampyres!", they are refering to this game by saying RPG (Role-Playing Game) or LARP (Live Action Role Play). The tabletop style of this game is the most common form and players get together with character sheets to play. LARP involves more acting than the tabletop style usually does and is most often done as a more theatrical version of the game where players dress up as their character and sometimes perform in public places. There are also many sites available online to participate in these games some of which are good and others that are not. White Wolf Publishing has a site available called New Bremen which is very structured and adheres to the rules of VtM. It is located at http://www.white-wolf.com under the heading Interactive. It is a game meant for entertainment purposes and is not an actual vampyre lifestyle. Personally, I love the game and see nothing wrong with having a little fun from time to time. ***A QUICK NOTE TO CLARIFY AN ISSUE: No where on these vampire/vampyre pages does it classify the vampire/vampyre lifestyle as "goth" nor is it my intent to represent it as such.***
