Limited Saloon Nationals. Rain caused the meeting to rescheduled for Sunday 1p.m.
The winner was 46a Nigel Ross. 2nd 51a Brent McClymont and third 43a Tim Hood.
9a Steve Louden suffered a puncture in the right front after incidental and unintentional contact with Nigel Ross. In the last race he went from the back and after a scrap settled for last. The track had gone away and Steve had was running no stagger after running out of tyres. It was an astonshing sight to see the red corvette running at the back and one which will probably not be seen again.
Phil Towgood spun in one race and was unable to recover the lost ground on a very one lane track.

The World Champ (Nissan Motor) The 6x World Champ (F1) The World Champ (F1) The ex NZ Champ The next NZ Champ

Winner Tony McLanachan from Wellington. Tony Mac with his Nissan powered stockcar had 2 wins and a 6th for 73 points
There was a run off for second after 51r Rodney Wood and 7n Graig Boote each finished with 67 points. The run off was a cracker. There were two real smashing hits. The Rotorua car lost it’s front wheel and it’s wing and was too damaged to drive fast. Boote was leading although his front wheels were wobbling and his rear bumper was dragging on the ground. The engine was missing badly and the car stopped in the top bend. Wood was waiting in pit bend and wasn’t aware for some time that Boote was stalled. The Rotorua car then completed the two laps required using the wall to steer and grading the track with his front bumper. The immaculately presented car of Woods was pretty second hand but as Rodney walked the track back to the start finish line to receive his well deserved trophy the fans gave him a rousing reception.

1NZ Craig Pierce ran the third heat with a flat front tyre after being caught in a mighty shamoozle in the first lap that saw both Rotorua’s Barry Hunter and Wellington’s Brian Musgrove roll after the red lights had come on. Both the 37r and 11w continued althougth Musgrove was to retire a few laps into the race. Hunter struggled to the chequered and scored a total of 42 points in the night to finish 11th. Pierce had 66 points and finished 4th overall.
Shane Penn came 6th with 62 points and is now registered with Palmerston North. Next was Wayne Hemi from Wellington with 61, then Murray Hobbs, 63 points for the Waikato Toyota quad cam, Dave Tennant had 53 points and winner of the third race Kelvin Grey 52 points in his 46p V6.
Three Auckland cars were in the top ten. 4th, Craig Pierce, 9th DT and 10th Kelvin Grey!
The best of the poms was Frankie Wainmann Jnt who finished 5th with 63 points.
John Lund finished all three races for a total of 40 points. In the first race he took 7p Paul Perkins to the wall pushed him up onto the concrete and rolled the local over. Lund also used the power of the 8p tank to chase Stan Hickey into pit bend, whack him into the wall and push him onto the fence. Lund continued but Stan was perched high and immobile for the rest of the race hoping no one would smash into his cage which was exposed to the traffic.
Lund has had his revenge for the F1 World Championship last year at Coventry.

Limited Saloon Nationals.(Report written after the first night of qualifying.)

This meeting needed a Thunder Storm to drown the track and put the meeting out of it’s misery.
There was no rain.
The field was mostly Aucklanders. It is interesting to note the cars that run hot at their local track but didn’t front and face the Auckland scrutineers for the biggest event of the Speedway year for limited saloons.
The fans of the class turned out to support the event, it is shame that there are less than a thousand fans who pay to see them race. If ever proof was needed that although the limited class is popular with the fans, it is a support class, this boring meeting was ample. If the spectators are at a meeting they like watching the big field of limited saloons race. But those spectators will not come specifically to see the budget sedans go round and round.
The top six from each group qualified and there will be a repercharge tomorrow night to find the final qialifiers.

Pictures will be added later.
