A Visitor From the Past

I had a dream the other night, I'm trying to understand. A figure walked out of the mist, with a flintlock in his hand. His clothes were torn and dirty, he just stood beside the bed, while tipping his 3-cornered hat, in a tearful voice he said:

"We fought a revolution, to secure our liberty, and we wrote the Constitution, as a shield from tyranny. For our future generations, this legacy we gave, to forever make our nation free, and keep our homeland brave."

"The freedoms we secured for you, we dreamed you'd always keep. But tyrants labored endlessly while your parents were asleep. Now with freedom gone and courage lost, you're no more than a pawn, in this, the land of freedom, where have the brave all gone?"

"You buy permits to travel, and permits to own a gun, permits to start a business, or to build a home for one. On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent, now you have no voice at all in how the money's spent."

"Your children must attend a school that does not educate, your Christian values will not be taught, according to the state. You read about the current news from a regulated press, and pay a tax you do not owe, to appease the I.R.S."

"Your money is no longer made of silver, nor of gold. You trade your wealth for paper, so your life can be controlled. You pay for crimes, that in God's eyes, brings our nation only shame, while ignoring the golden rule, and trading off our name."

"You've given control of government to those that do you harm, so they can padlock churches, and steal the family farm. They keep the country deep in debt, and put innocent men in jail, harassing fellow countrymen, while corrupted courts prevail."

"Your public servants do not uphold the solemn oath they've sworn. Your daughters visit doctors so their children won't be born. Your leaders ship artillery, and bombs to foreign shores, and send your sons to slaughter, fighting other people's wars."

"Can you regain the freedoms for which we fought and died? Can't you find the courage, or the faith to stand with pride? Are there no longer values, for which you will defend? Or, do you wish your children to inherit this sad end?

"Patriots of America, arise and take a stand, to defend our Constitution, the supreme law of this land! Preserve our great ideals, and unalienable rights, pray to God to keep the torch of freedom burning bright!"

As I awoke he vanished, into the mist from which he came. His words rang true, sweet freedom cries, with just ourselves to blame. For even now as lawmakers are trampling out our rights, we turn away in apathy, afraid to stand and fight.

If he stood, beside your bed, in a dream while you're asleep, and wondered what yet remains of the rights he died to keep. What would be your answer, if he called out from the grave. Is this the land where freedom rings, is this the home of the brave??

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands that feed you. May your chains be set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget you were our countrymen." (Samuel Adams - American Patriot)
