I'm trying to stay sane right now. "Fushigi
Yuugi" has its good points, but this CD is not one of them. The first
track, "Inoru Youni Ashiteru" is Miaka singing to the really, really overused
BMG that I can't stand. The singing is good, chalk up a point to
that, but the music actually makes me start twitching. "Still" is
a much better song, one because it's not as sappy, and also it has this
whole dance beat thing going (utz-utz-utz). The lyrics are pretty
cool, they're about Yui. Next is "Ai to...", another song done to
a BMG, though not an overused BMG. It's a pretty neat song.
Midorikawa Hikaru isn't one of my favorite singers. Then another
overused BMG song, "Sadame no Hoshi". First off, the BMG is pretty
darn annoying because of the symbols. Second, since there's an echo,
it's pretty hard to hear Koyasu Takehito's halfway decent singing voice.
The echo makes it annoying. "I Wish", the next track, is good, because
even though the music box BMG is used a lot, it's a good BMG, and Touma
Yumi is such a good singer. This was one of the first FY songs I
heard, and it's still one of my favorites, although you can get sick of
it really easily. "Best Friend" is very... uh, happy. It's
a song little kids would be bouncing around hyper to. "Wakatte Itahazu"
is one of my favorite tracks. Satou Akemi is a very talented singer.
Furthermore, this is a slower song, it's romantic, and the instruments
are pretty good (not really anything synthesized in there). The best
track on the CD is the next one, "Kaze no Uta". Sakamoto Chika is
one of the awesomest seiyuu ever. Nuriko is one of the awesomest
anime characters ever. The song is sung with such emotion, and the
instruments really make it one of those classic anime songs everyone loves.
"Otome Ranman" is another Nuriko song, and it's kind of 'blah' after hearing
"Kaze no Uta". It's still worth a listen. "Kachou no Fuugetsu"
is another song that makes me twitch nervously. It's not that bad,
but I start twitching and I can't really figure out why. I guess
I don't like Seki Tomokazu's voice that much. Considering how I feel
about Tasuki "Heart ni Kiraboshi..." is actually pretty decent. Tasuki
as an 80's rock star is pretty disturbing though. (That's what he
sounds like in this song). Not the greatest song on the world.
The next track, "Hidarite no Kioku" is enough to make me want to abandon
this CD by the roadside in San Jose". When I say I'm sick of tenors,
I don't mean it, really, I don't. Make it go away, mommy, make it
stop! It's like Mitsukake thinks he's Marvin Gaye or Barry White
or Chef, which normally would be cool, but something about it just is so
horribly, horribly wrong. So, for the love of Lain, skip to "Akai
Iitsudae" a much more tolerable song. Chiriko is soooo adorable in
this song, and it's about the legend of Konan. But it's not nearly
as adorable as "PS: Aitte Eien Desu Ka", which is so good, it makes me
smile every time I hear it. Chiriko is such a precious little child,
I think my little sister should marry him. Anyway, that's all I can
say about this song is how adorable it is. Finally, there is "Itooshi
Hito no Tame Ni". This is one of anime's better opening songs, though
it's not the greatest. Well, the verses aren't, the chorus is actually
pretty awesome. It suits the series well, being kinda good and kinda
icky. Overall, this CD isn't really worth it for the few good tracks,
because the bad ones are scary and bad and make me twitch.
