Let's see if I can make it through this one without doing something stupid.  This is the first American soundtrack for Sailor Moon.  The first track is the American Sailor Moon theme.  The instruments are pretty cool, but the lyrics don't really work.  Since when does "never running from a real fight" apply to Sailor Moon?  Track 2, "I Wanna Be a Star", makes me wanna be a corpse.  It's very corny, cliched, and... just bad.  Gimme Japanese music I have a limited comprehension of any day!  The singer actually isn't too bad- she could be really big if she gave up Sailor Moon and did some real music.  The next song "My Only Love" proves it.  This is one of the better songs to come out of the Sailor Moon dub.  It's very pretty, and it isn't overly corny and cliched- I need to get a thesaurus.  Now, why does track 4 sound familiar?  It's a watered-down take-off on the theme song for "Friends".  The guitar riff in it even sounds awfully similar.  "Oh Starry Night" is another okay song.  It has nice harmonies, but I think I prefer the version used in the TV series.  As for track 6, it does no justice to the song it was written to replace ("You Are Just My Love", which wasn't really that great either).  The lyrics are incredibly unoriginal and cheezy.  "Carry On" is pretty awesome.  I like the instruments a lot, and believe it or not, this was actually cooler at the end of the first season than "Moonlight Densetsu".  This is probably the best thing North American Sailor Moon spawned.  The next track, "Rainy Day Man" is another good dub invention.  The vocalist sounds a lot like Lita.  The lyrics aren't really a feat of poetry or anything, but the music is great, and the harmonies rock.  "Only a Memory Away" is okay.  The lyrics are nice, but boy oh boy is the rhyming unnatural and deliberate.  It doesn't really flow all that well, but it's good.  I prefer the episode version, which was a bit slower and I think it had better lyrics.  Track 10, "She's Got the Power" is so awful I don't want to talk about it.  And what is there to say about the short version of the Sailor Moon theme?  It's the same as the first track, except it makes no mention of Sailor Venus etc.  Oh yeah, and there isn't a wicked guitar solo.  Anyway, Japanese=good, English=bad, don't get this CD or I'll be real sad.  Wow, I did a real good impression of the rhyming on this album!  Unless you're a dub fan, steer clear of this one.
