St Laurence's Primary School
Through God’s grace a community growing in knowledge and understanding.
How it all began
St. Laurence Primary School, Arbury Road, is a Catholic Voluntary Aided
School that was first opened in April 1968. The original costs of the building
were met largely through the Roman Catholic Diocese of East Anglia, though
the actual running costs are in the main financed from a budget allocated
by Cambridgeshire County Council, the Local Education Authority. The school
serves the needs of the catholic community of North Cambridge and the nearby
villages.
Mission statement
Christian values of caring and respecting others are central to all
schoolwork, as is the aim of providing children with as excellent education.
The Governors try to ensure that the curriculum is broad, balanced and
relevant to the needs of every pupil. The school also aims to be outward
looking and recognises its role in the wider community.
Moving on
On transfer from primary to secondary school, parents and children
are encouraged to consider St. Bede’s, an Inter-Church Comprehensive School
offering a broad and balanced curriculum. Spiritual and moral development
are central to the school life, and so children move smoothly onto the
next step of their Christian journey. Some children transfer to other secondary
schools in Cambridge or to their local village colleges, whilst others
move into the private sector.
Further information, including a full prospectus can be obtained from the school office.
