St. James the Less (or the little), the subject of the sixth window, was first Bishop of Jerusalem and directed the first council of the Christian Church there in the year 50. He carries a fuller's bat which is the traditional manner of his death. The symbol of the windmill describes his character. He was slow in accepting the divinity of our Lord. However, when he finally did accept that faith, he was extremely zealous in working for it. Like a windmill, the harder the winds of adversity blew, the harder he labored for Christ. His day is May 1st.
