St. James the Less (or the little), the subject of the sixth window, was
first Bishop of Jerusalem and directed the first council of the Christian Church there in
the year 50. He carries a fuller's bat which is the traditional manner of his death. The
symbol of the windmill describes his character. He was slow in accepting the divinity of
our Lord. However, when he finally did accept that faith, he was extremely zealous in
working for it. Like a windmill, the harder the winds of adversity blew, the harder he
labored for Christ. His day is May 1st.
