par Le grouiller de la nuit

La Bouchée
I’ve been asked many times for recommendations regarding fine dining in Toronto, and I must say, that the "place du nuit" really depends upon one’s palate. Personally, I have found downtown to be a tad too raw, and whilst dining in the area surrounding University has much more "joie de vivre" to it, I still prefer those little known “out of the way” places. But then one is never truly sure from whence the next meal cometh, is one?

Les mystères de la nuit
There are many dangers in the dark, dear reader. Some of them tangible, and some of them intangible. But the most dangerous thing in the night, is the unknown: That which disguises its appearance, and can be quite deceiving to the untrained eye. It is just such unknown gremlins which have voracious appetites. Do beware when venturing out mes enfants, the mysteries of the night are sometimes best left alone.

L’Enfant terrible
Parenting, mes amis, is somewhat akin to an eternal nightmare. Try though you may, you will never make your children happy. And even worse, from the moment they are born, they will own you for as long as you exist. My advice to any of you who is contemplating becoming a parent is quite simple: Don’t.

Le Cœur ennuyeux
It is always best to maintain a heart of stone. Nothing gets in, nothing gets out. Life is neat and clean that way. Love, caring and vulnerability are for the foolish and misdirected among us. It never pays. One can open his heart to another, only to find betrayal and pity staring back at him. And in the end, it can lead to only one thing; pain. Say no to love; you’ll find more solace in old nursery rhymes about sugar and spice and everything nice, than you’ll ever find in the heart of another.

Ce regard du certaine
Last but not least, mes enfants, is a word on the importance of garnering a look. One’s chosen flavour of appearance, makes a statement in and of itself. It does not matter what one’s look of choice be, as long as one has made a conscious effort to develop a style. I am of the opinion, that one can never go wrong with black. Simple, elegant, and carries a slight air of intimidation, which so often comes in handy. After all, it has been said by many that the clothes make the man. Although in some cases, I’m inclined to think that it could perhaps be the eyebrows.....
