The History of The Collective

It began like any other day... We woke up, We went about our business, and We went online. We logged into the newsgroup, alt.gothic.fashion, like We did everyday, and found a surprise. The female previously referred to as LadyRhye posted a message (to which the original subject is forgotten), saying "I am 17 of Goth. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile."

Another female, who was previously referred to as StormWillow, found humor in this, and had the idea that everyone should pick a number as their designation, and form The Collective. She volunteered to create a webpage, and be basically the monitor of The Collective, seeing that no two people have the same number, and such as that. For about a week after, the newsgroup was getting flooded with people who wanted to be assimilated. So they were.

StormWillow did not expect such a large turnout, so she decided to form three sub-collectives to break it down a little bit. Each sub-collective has a different "meaning." If an individual referred to themselves as "goth", they picked a positive number, and they became "[number] of Goth." If an individual referred to themselves as almost-a-goth, they chose a negative number and became "[negative number] of Goth." Finally, if an individual was not-a-goth(tm), they chose a positive number and became "[number] of NotAGoth."

This webpage was created to show that individuals will be assimilated. Resistance will be futile. We have been assimilated. Resistance was futile.

We are no longer an individual. We are one. We are The Collective.

Individuals who have been assimilated.

To be assimilated, you need not ask twice.
