These strikingly beautiful birds make affectionate pets and can be excellent talkers.  This particular subspecies hails from the Solomon Islands, but others come from New Guinea and Australia.  The females are a brilliant ruby color with varying shades of purples and blues down their chest. Males are bright green with reds and blues under their wings.  They were once thought to be entirely separate species of parrots.
