My real name is Diana....glad you stopped by!!
I moved to Nome, Alaska in '93 after visiting there on a
vacation. I moved to Anchorage in '96. I love it here!! (Even
if I am originally from central Florida!! Yes, it was a big
change, but oh, soooooo worth it!!)
I am 42 yrs old. (SHOCK! yes, I admit my age...hehehe) I have green/blue eyes and naturally curly dirty blond hair.
The pic above is me going to the club with my best friend Steve... he always either caught me with my eyes closed, or would get his finger in the shot...hehehe....He was a trip!! (Several of the pic's on this page are now a tribute to a wonderful, special friend!! Sadly, he passed away a couple months after they were taken. He will always be remembered fondly by all who knew him and especially by me...*s*)
The pic on the right is me at Horsetail Falls here in Alaska near Valdez if you squint you can just see me, under the left part of where the fall splits...*g* Took two pics to get the whole fall in..
I have done many jobs in life, and that made my move to Alaska much easier. Among my many and varied talents are: certified electricians apprentice, laminator (build and repair fiberglass parts for cars and boats.
I went to college for a while, working supposedly toward a veterinary degree but
like most 20 yr. olds decided to quit college and go explore life. I have even done jobs like work at Burger King and tried food/cocktail waitressing (and admit it..haha). I am working for myself now. I love traveling around...guess that's the nomad in me. In the winter I keep busy with my vending machines.
I have done ALOT of volunteer work within/for the Anchorage/Alaska community:
**I helped design and implement a survey with the Northern Endevour Team (NET)
that would get information directly from disabled (multiply diagnosed) homeless
population here in Anchorage. We finished the survey and sent the information
to an outside organization to compile and create a presentation, and now I
am going with NET members and giving public presentations of our info to
the various organizations in Anchorage who could possibly make changes for
the homeless situation.
**For a local AIDS agency. I mainly designed custom condom wrappers for holidays and such. I tried to make them have sort of a comical theme. I thought making it
fun to hand a condom to someone might make it alot easier to broach the subject of safer sex.
**I was a Board Member of the State of Alaska HIV Prevention Planning Group. I wanted to learn more about HIV/AIDS so I went to the First Annual National Women and HIV Conferance in Los Angeles, CA. That was sooo interesting, not to mention educational. It really hit home just how the HIV/AIDS epidemic has managed to cut through all barriers...race, creed, color, religion, sexuality, sexual identity...it can effect and affect ANYONE. Another interesting area that opened my eyes is that HIV/AIDS doesn't just affect the person living with the disease but also friends and family and co-workers. I had a couple friends die of AIDS in the '80's. It really got me interested in trying to work doing something to iradicate the ignorance about this disease by doing some of the footwork...not just sitting around bitching and moaning.
**For 'IDENTITY' (a local Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender information hotline) people call for many reasons. They maybe going thru a sexual identity crisis, or wanting information on local business/bars/restraunts that are gay/lesbian owned/friendly,
or wanting info. for gay/lesbian friendly lawyers, doctors, and to get non-biased hiv/aids info. It has been pretty cool working this hotline, not what I "expected" at all. Guess even an open-minded heterosexual person like me has some pre-conceived ideas about things eh? I wrong.
**For the rape crisis hotline "STAR" (Standing Together Against Rape) working on that hotline was, what can I say?.....ummm very intense and very rewarding. I was one of the volunteers invited by the Mayor of Anchorage to come to a luncheon given to
recognize the hard work of 4 differant volunteer organizations and 20 of their volunteers (20 from each org.) I got a cool certificate and the Mayor had special pins commissioned for us. It was a great honor. \
As for hobbies.....well I have many actually....
I like to paint and draw, and am pretty darn good at it *lol*
*sigh* I have to admit tho' I am so lazy about taking advantage of my natural talent...
...someone please kick my butt into gear!!
I guess to put it simply, I am a pretty intelligent, compasionate, talented, fun-loving,
spontanious, interesting person and as a friend told me the other day.....
"the sweetest person they have ever met" (awwwww aint that special? *hehehe*)
I am have found someone who can apprieciate the simpler things in life: companionship, friendship and a loving, trusting, non-smothering, passionate relationship.
I am not sure why it seems so hard for many of us to find that person...Because basicly aren't we ALL looking for someone to share thoughts, dreams, and activities and personal space with?? It ain't all 'bout sex...though that can make it more interesting. *wink*
Well my friend, thanks for dropping by....its always work in progress....
so check again soon if you like...
*warm hugs to you*
God bless you and yours...
Diana
