The Grosvenor Cinema

On May 5th 1921, one of Glasgow's most well known and longest serving cinemas opened it doors for the first time. The Grosvenor Cinema was born. |
| The original entrance to the cinema was on Byres Road (where Bonhams is currently located) which housed a cafe and soda fountain and all screens where located at the Ashton lane end of the cinema. |

| For most of its life, ABC Cinema's owned the Grosvenor from 1929 to 1976. Although they maintained the building, no major reconstruction or changes to the exterior were carried out during this time. During 1976 the ownership of the Grosvenor changed hands to Caledonian Cinemas | |
| Under the reign of Caledonian Cinemas, The Grosvenor Cinema went under some major reconstruction during 1980. The foyer located on Byers Road was demolished and the entrance to the cinema was relocated to Ashton Lane. The stalls were divided into cinemas and named Ashton (276 seats) and Kelvin(263 seats). The balcony was kept in tact, but would never reopen. |  |

In 2001, the ownership of the Grosvenor under Caledonian Cinemas ended with a takeover from the Glasgow based G1 Group. |
| 30th June 2002 marks a sad day in the history of The Grosvenor Cinema. After the last showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show it closes it doors for an 18 month refurbishment into a bar/restaurant with 2 cinema screens. So we bid this dear old cinema goodbye.....till the next time. |  |
| A pic of the new cinema will be here soon | After an 18 month refurbishment the Grosvenor Cinema will re-open its doors on November 28th 2003. I'm sure lots of people will be there to see it re-open......might see you there! |
